We were served a welcome pepper cream soup with bread. It was a shame the bread was old, not oven-toasted, and therefore quite soggy. As for the first courses, the portions were a bit small (I had the leek-filled gnocchi, but I tried a bit of everything), but everything was good.
For the second courses, I had the frico with polenta, which was good, but I don't think it was homemade. Too bad.
As for the atmosphere, I have to say I felt cold. The fire was out, rightly so given the time of year, and there was only an electric heater warming the entire dining room.

A traditional trattoria with a timeless atmosphere. Reservations are required, seating is limited, and the place is always packed. Lunch is excellent and the fixed-price menu is a good value.
If you're in the San Daniele area, you absolutely must stop here.

Every time you go, you feel right at home. The welcome and service are excellent, and the food makes you feel good.
Recommended if you want to take a day trip to see the castles in the surrounding towns and stop for lunch here.
It's best to call and book to be sure.
Recommended to come during the different seasons to try typical seasonal dishes.

My wife and I have eaten at Al Gnotul several times. The place is very quaint and exudes Friulian tradition, culture, and hospitality. We've always had a wonderful time. The owners are very kind in their advice and hospitality. They serve simple Friulian cuisine, prepared with great care and simplicity. First time I had dinner I was very satisfied! I was with locals who took me there! Only the bread they bring you 4 different types of water included in the cover charge, a trio of good first courses, super meat, delicious desserts and plenty of them! I recommend it to everyone because it's worth it!
