Many pseudo-restaurateurs, when given 3-star reviews, get offended and respond with pique. These overpriced mediocrities should go eat fish at Al Gallo. They'd learn what it means to have excellent (and not predictable) ingredients, cooked lightly yet deliciously. They'd understand, beyond their personal tastes (I always prefer to eat on a tablecloth, which isn't available here), how to elegantly furnish a restaurant. What kind of experience should be offered when the price is well over 50 euros (as is now the case, especially in my hometown of Bologna, even in dives). They'd realize that either places like Al Gallo should be given 6 stars in their category, or their service should be downgraded to 2. I'd improve the bread. Hats off.
PS, since I've been back several times, I must add that I ate one of the best ice creams of my life. This restaurant is a real surprise.

Every time I visit this delightful historic restaurant, it's always a feast for the eyes and, above all, the palate. High-quality food, prepared and served with love. The table service is also noteworthy.
Last night's dinner, during ART&Food with the 3 Chefs, was unforgettable and special. All the love and experience in the field was evident.

We liked the freshness of the fish and the very young and nice waiter, the mini terrace was also nice. Overall, good even if a few more side dishes besides the polenta could have been included.

We had dinner there a few days ago and it was truly a wonderful experience. The tuna and melon appetizer was amazing, and the spaghetti with scampi and bottarga was excellent. We also tried the sliced beef with roast potatoes, perhaps a little overcooked for medium rare, but still very good. We'll definitely be returning soon.

While I appreciated the quality of the fish, the tasting menu didn't entirely convince me, failing to create the "magical" effect one expects from a high-quality culinary experience.
It's true, the freshness and provenance of the fish are crucial, and Al Gallo seems to excel in this. However, to be truly memorable, a tasting menu must offer something more: a sensory journey that surprises and delights, perhaps through unexpected pairings, innovative techniques, or a coherent narrative between the courses.
The "magic" often lies in that extra something: an original idea, an artistic presentation that elevates the dish, or simply a harmony of flavors that leaves an indelible impression. Without these elements, even the most excellent ingredients risk failing to reach their full potential in a tasting context.
