Taverna Del Cerriglio In Napoli

What a wonderful find! Getting there is a bit of an adventure. We weren’t at all sure we were heading in the right direction despite using both Google Maps and Apple Maps but after venturing down a twisted ally we found this historic gem of a restaurant! A tavern dating back the 14th century, frequented by the painter Caravaggio and other persons of equal fame, today this restaurant serves authentic Neapolitan cuisine that is both delicious and reasonably priced. We arrived at this non-touristy but busy restaurant on a Thursday night without a reservation, but they found a table for us within less than 5 minutes. Our waiter, Christian, was attentive but in an unobtrusive way. The food was delicious. We chose seafood dishes accompanied by a very nice, bubbly Chardonnay recommended by Christian. This culinary experience was completed by an airy babà au rum. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND following the unlikely looking route to this hidden gem.

I understand better now why Italian food competes with French even if it as a Neapolitan flavor and that is what gives it this character on the plate.

Locanda del Cerriglio, Vincenzo, the chef Davide and all the guys treat you as if you were at home, and today I believe that part of enjoying a good meal out is also and above all this. I managed to eat here twice during my stay in Naples, not regretting my choice. The deliberate choice to maintain traditional Neapolitan dishes is clear in the menu, which is nevertheless very refined and studied. All the dishes I tasted were always complete, with a remarkable choice of raw materials. The service accompanies the diner on the journey between the courses where nothing seems to be left to chance, personal care always seems to be the priority. Thanks guys, I'm taking home a culinary experience that I will hardly forget. See you very soon, I'll wait for you in Mantua :)

Food was ok but could be better (esp the dessert). The music can be a bit loud. Plenty of space and convenient location

An inn where you can savor a unique historicity. Careful dishes that respect the Neapolitan culinary tradition. I would define the value for money as excellent and if, like us, you are lucky enough to be served by Enzo and Claudio (splendid people as well as exceptional sommeliers) it can only be among the best culinary experiences of your life. If I return to Naples I will only be able to return to Cerriglio. Deep down I am convinced that Caravaggio has also returned.

I had already been there in 2017, the management has changed, the prices have increased, the cuisine no longer seems the same to me, I preferred it before.

Average overall. Feels touristy with everything on the wall, you pay for the location more than the food. Very annoying loud music. Service was just ok as well. And worse of all, a rum baba without any rum… would not go back.

😻: excellent food; unbeatable ragù, soft wine, good Genoese, excellent fried food. But above all the availability since today, April 25th, we arrived at 2pm without having booked and they gave us a table after 5 minutes!
