Characteristic porticos, considered the oldest in Italy. Overlooking the port, for tourists and visitors it represents the popular and multi-ethnic soul of a Genoa gateway to the Mediterranean.

Considered the oldest public porticoes in Italy, and perhaps in Europe, they date back at least to 1133, on the public initiative of the Consuls of the Municipality, who established precise rules for their construction. It is a long covered market of about 800 meters, divided into four sectors (one of which, called Sottoripa "the dark", half-hidden and little known), restored between 1992 and 2004, when the facades of the buildings were recovered, by the Municipality of Genoa. Always frequented, also considering their central position - we are in front of the Aquarium - in recent times (summer 2024) unfortunately there have been episodes of petty crime that risk obscuring the fame of this important historical site
