In an era where restaurants often chase the latest trends, there are places that continue to tell a story of authenticity, flavor, and hospitality. Rubbagalline is one of them. A historic restaurant that, in 2026, preserves the charm of old-fashioned trattorias, proving that true Italian cuisine doesn't need special effects to make an impact. As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by a warm, familiar atmosphere. It was wonderful to see the spacious, well-equipped rooms buzzing with the pleasant buzz of the tables, the aromas wafting from the kitchen, and that convivial atmosphere that is increasingly difficult to find today. Here, you don't feel like you're entering a simple restaurant, but a home where good food is the language used to welcome guests. Making the evening even more enjoyable was an attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable waiter, whom we affectionately nicknamed Francesco. With discretion and professionalism, he guided us through the evening's dishes, explaining their ingredients and preparation with infectious passion. The options were so numerous and inviting that choosing was almost impossible. With the experience of someone who knows his cuisine well, Francesco suggested we start with a generous appetizer platter. A precious tip: a generous selection of cured meats, cheeses, and specialties that showcase the region and prepare the palate for the following courses. He also offered us the house wine, but we opted for a white, which proved to be the ideal companion throughout the dinner. One of the most engaging moments of the experience was choosing the meat directly at the counter. Observing the different cuts, letting yourself be guided by the quality of the raw materials, and deciding which one to bring to the table fosters a genuine connection with food, an increasingly rare phenomenon. The meat, cooked with great precision, arrived beautifully served on an elegant platter: tender, juicy, and rich in flavor, the absolute star of the evening. The perfect counterpoint was a sautéed chicory with potatoes, prepared according to tradition. A side dish that might seem simple, but when crafted with balance and respect for the ingredients, it becomes an integral part of the gastronomic experience. Rubbagalline achieves the most difficult feat: thrilling without ostentation. Here, everything speaks of substance, from the quality of the ingredients to the attentive service, to a cuisine that doesn't feel the need to reinvent itself to impress. Tradition is respected, enhanced, and served with pride. And then there's a detail that's worth more than any review. Throughout the entire dinner, our cell phones remained on the table, forgotten. No compulsive photos, no distractions, no notifications that could interrupt the pleasure of dining. We were completely immersed in the flavors, the conversations, and the atmosphere of the place. When a restaurant can make you forget about your smartphone, it means it has achieved its most important goal: letting you live in the moment. Rubbagalline is proof that good dining isn't just about excellent food, it's also about people. A sincere welcome, the expertise of a waiter like Francesco, the ability to offer advice without ever imposing, and the ability to transform a dinner into a treasured memory. In an increasingly fast-paced world, Rubbagalline invites you to slow down, savor every bite, and rediscover the pleasure of conviviality. It's one of those restaurants that doesn't just feed you, but tells a story. And at the end of the evening, you leave with one certainty: some traditions are worth preserving, because they continue to give us authentic emotions.

We had dinner with friends at this restaurant. The food was excellent, but the service left a bit to be desired; we had to ask several times for certain items. The place is quite warm inside, given that they have a grill where the tables are. A bit more ventilation would certainly have been better. They do have fans, but they aren't enough. I recommend it, though, because the food is really good.

I was there a couple of nights ago on my way back from the beach! I had promised myself several times that I would try it, so I ordered a fillet steak and some broccoli. The lady at the cashier was very kind and helped me charge my phone! I will definitely be back.

A sure thing. You come for the meat, obviously, but everything else was delicious, too. The staff was super friendly.

Mattarello Magliana

28/04/2026: I would like to point out that it is closed even though Google currently lists it as open.
25/03/2026: LOCATION: Er Fettuccina (formerly "al Mattarello") is located in the XI District (Portuense) at Via della Magliana 210, an area once characterized by agricultural fields and today still retains a popular and authentic feel. A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: During my visits, I enjoyed several specialties: • Fragrant pizzas, prepared with quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. • Homemade tagliatelle, a symbol of Roman tradition, accompanied by a tasty Danish steak. The restaurant offers spacious and welcoming spaces, with the option of dining al fresco, ideal for Roman evenings. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and the staff is distinguished by their courtesy and helpfulness. FUN FACT: DID YOU KNOW THAT...? Via della Magliana takes its name from the Magliana family, who owned farmland in the area. The neighborhood is also known for its vibrant social life and local markets, where an authentic atmosphere still reigns. Dining here means experiencing Rome like a local, away from the crowded tourist circuits. ROME IN DETAIL: Rome isn't just the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, or the Trevi Fountain. It's also made up of neighborhoods like Portuense, where everyday life intertwines with history. If you're looking for a place to enjoy authentic Roman cuisine, Er Fettuccina is a recommended stop. If you found what you read helpful and enjoyable, I invite you to read my other reviews.
