27/08/2024: Don't ask me to be objective and rigorous in this review. When you are in love you are never objective. Well yes, I fell in love with Montelliana ever since this business opened in 1990. At the time, in addition to the indisputable goodness of the product that was served to me at the table, the charm of the competitive prices was irresistible. Over time, the business has evolved with the contribution of new energy that the dynamic and enterprising descendants have guaranteed. Prices have more or less aligned but... you can't do without Montelliana. The owner has been creating, sweating and interpreting his menu in front of his own wood-fired oven for over 30 years, with results of extraordinary inemulability (don't look for the lemma that is not recorded in the dictionaries, just coined at the table...)
In fact, this evening, even though it was out of the way, I decided to eat here. Unfortunately these days it happens to me more rarely, living in another province and now also another region. But when I'm in the area, a stop is always a must.
The owner recognizes me from the order he receives at the bakery: Pizza Fantasia. The menu records it with the ingredients of spicy salami, anchovies, capers and flaked parmesan cheese on a Margherita basis, but only those who lived through the first years of the pizzeria can know that the old menu also included eggs... so the owner he recognizes me. Indeed, today for the occasion in addition to the egg, I also added sausage, so as not to miss anything.
Northern style pizza, shallow and well cooked. As a native of Campania, I can affirm that it is another world, equally respectable, compared to the classic and renowned Neapolitan pizza. Generous in size, almost like a beaten pizza and richly seasoned if not overflowing with excellent quality ingredients and tasty goodness. Ideal for my taste, the accompaniment with a fresh and aromatic Löwenbräu red beer.
For me it is undoubtedly the best pizza in the world. But I have already declared myself... I am in love with Montelliana!...
