19/08/2025: When I made my reservation (as a former restaurateur, I don't go to a restaurant without booking in advance), I was a little hesitant when asked if I wanted to have lunch during the first or second sitting. I immediately pictured a somewhat chaotic place. We arrived and found parking in the designated area, which wasn't very large, I must say, but that's not their fault; it's already a good thing. They didn't give us much time to choose our dishes, since we were in the first sitting, but we arrived on time, so they seemed to be a bit thoughtful. For starters, we had a charcuterie board and a cheese wheel, both good and plentiful. The polenta vigezzina was superb, I must say; we left it aside because it was so plentiful. It could have been a main course, as far as our stomachs were concerned. The wine by the glass was decent, but we didn't have room for dessert. The price wasn't the cheapest, but it was quite reasonable. It's not a place where you can enjoy a good lunch in peace, given the crowd that was there, but the dishes were still good.
13/08/2025: Osteria del Mercante is a must-try in Santa Maria Maggiore. The food is exceptional, the staff is always very friendly and attentive, and the signature dish is tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms. Excellent value for money.
