Rifugio Menaggio In Plesio

A lovely refuge where you can have lunch after a long (and somewhat strenuous) climb. The food is reasonably good, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The refuge is located in a very scenic area. Other trails leading to higher altitudes depart from the refuge.

I passed by here on Monday before climbing to the top of Grona and I had lunch there while I was coming down, the girl is very kind, the view is wonderful and I ate and drank very well, congratulations 👌 I will gladly return

A refuge where you eat (and drink) like a refuge! Climbing from Monti di Plesio, you reach the refuge, which offers a priceless view of both branches of the Lario. The menu includes polenta with stew, sausage, cheese, eggs, and, of course, polenta uncia. There are also platters of cold cuts, cheese, or a mix. We ordered a spritz...the alcoholic one we've ever tasted! The effort to get there is amply rewarded.

At Breglia, pay a ticket (if the machine works) and continue to the Grona parking lot (be careful: the road is very narrow and full of dips and potholes; you need to go very slowly, and it's best to do it on a weekday or very early in the morning to avoid intersections). From there, continue through the woods and soon come to a fork: I took the higher path (see the red arrow in the photo), which looks worse but is actually more gradual (the other path continues almost flat, but then... it's a wall!) Be careful, as the path is through a beautiful wood but mostly rocky. There are also four points where large rocks require caution: a young boy accustomed to the mountains can leap over them in two, while others should take their time (it's not a path for carrying your great-grandmother or aunt with knee problems). In any case, hiking poles are very useful, especially on the way back! The view from the refuge is breathtaking; it's completely calm, with only the wind blowing, and it overlooks the center of the lake, from Disgrazia to Monte di Tremezzo. The menu is simple but comprehensive (polenta in all its variations, platters, and pasta). The food is authentic; the carrot cake is the best I've ever had. The prices are low, considering that not even a jeep can get there. The atmosphere is friendly, a rustic place in the middle of nowhere, clean and pleasant. The two women who run it are smart and kind. The internet works well. It's comfortable both inside and out. It's a shame to have to take the road back. I've also attached two screenshots of the refuge's live webcam (it almost always works) that give you an idea. From home, in the evening, I sometimes see deer emerging from the woods to graze right in front of the refuge. What a great place!

If you're looking for a slice of paradise in the mountains, Rifugio Menaggio is a must-see. After a regenerating hike immersed in nature, arriving at the refuge is a true reward: the staff welcomes you with a genuine smile and a warmth that immediately makes you feel at home. The mushroom risotto was a true delight, creamy and rich in flavor, perfect after the effort of trekking. The view from the refuge is breathtaking: majestic mountains, clear skies, and a rejuvenating silence. The garden is the ideal place to relax, read a book, or simply enjoy the scenery. And for those who love adventure, there's also the option of pitching a tent and sleeping under the stars—an experience I've had and highly recommend.

A magnificent place that I've known for years and with a stunning location... very easy to find, with parking just before the trail to reach it. The approach is very easy, scenic, and well-marked and maintained. Once you arrive, you can continue to the summit of Grona either from the via ferrata or the trail, enjoying a devastating view of both Lake Como and Ceresio and the small (but beautiful) Lake Piano. The refuge is stunning and super welcoming with excellent food, draft beer, a terrace and lawn below where you can peacefully rest or sunbathe :)... in short, a unique and wonderful place... highly recommended to everyone 🔝 (photo from the top of Mount Grona)

Visit only landscape up to Mount Grona. You can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Lake Como/Lecco (view of Bellagio). Managed by pleasant managers. With good leg accessible to all.
