Rifugio Casermette del Monte Penna In Santo stefano d'aveto

The refuge is a must-see for anyone visiting the area. It's an excellent base for numerous excursions, with a beautiful location in the middle of the forest. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable.

I've been to the Casermette del Penna refuge several times for refreshments and have noticed a very familiar and welcoming atmosphere... extremely kind and helpful staff; the cold cuts and cheese platters and aperitifs are excellent, as are the craft beers, on tap or for sale in bottles, which I bought and, according to my dad, are delicious... (I don't usually drink beer); the thick hot chocolate is excellent! The environment is all wooden with a wonderful view of Mount Penna! I have a house in Santo Stefano 'Aveto, but I would really like to experience sleeping in this refuge, I found the atmosphere very warm and pleasant!

A fantastic place to relax, with no cell phone reception (beautiful)....but there's Wi-Fi throughout the property...very kind and helpful staff, excellent food, and good prices even for staying on site. Possibility of hiking, e-bike riding, and motorcycle riding, all very beautiful, and climbing nearby Monte Penna offers a breathtaking view...try it and believe it.

Pros: Stunning location with meadows and woods. Free camper pitches. Clean with plenty of tables available. Prices are a bit high for what you eat. Table service is non-existent. You go and collect your tray with what you ordered and at the end of the meal you empty it in the waste corner. Plastic cutlery and plates are fine. It's a refuge, but you pay a cover charge. Even though we're almost 1700 meters away, the ladies at the counter will remind you that you're still in Liguria. Not a smile, not a thank you.

Nice site, but the menu isn't up to par due to the crowds. Avoid during summer holidays.

Everything was fine, and the staff was attentive and courteous. I haven't stayed at the refuge yet.

Very warm welcome, I arrived there while on a motorcycle tour. I ate well, highly recommended.

A truly enchanting place, immersed in the greenery of the Aveto Park. The Casermette del Penna are a classic refuge where time seems to slow down: peace and nature reign supreme. The surrounding landscape is spectacular, with dense beech forests and well-marked trails starting directly from the refuge. I recommend the Monte Penna loop, a panoramic hike with some technical sections (there's a ledge with chains), but truly rewarding. The refuge is simple but well-kept. The atmosphere is authentic, rustic, and even the interiors have a touch of personality, with furnishings inspired by Chiavari chairs. The rooms are clean and welcoming, if a bit spartan. I slept in one of the three-bed rooms: quiet and with a view of the forest, truly relaxing. There's also a larger dormitory, convenient for groups. The restaurant is a pleasant surprise: well-cooked local dishes, generous portions, and fresh ingredients. I tried the polenta with mushrooms and Aveto Valley cheese: top notch. Lunch is self-service, convenient for those arriving from a hike. Service is fast, though a bit slapdash at times: sometimes you have to rush from the table and clear the table yourself, but that's also part of the refuge's spirit. The only slightly less positive aspect: the prices aren't exactly those of a refuge. Accommodations are more expensive than in other similar places, and in low season, service can be a bit limited. However, the location, the hospitality, and the quality of the food more than make up for it. Overall, a super positive experience. A place worth considering if you're looking for tranquility, authentic nature, and good mountain cuisine. I'll definitely return, perhaps in the winter with the snow or in the fall for the foliage.
