Beautiful, a must-see place for anyone visiting Salerno. In the chapel where Saint Matthew's tomb is located, the paintings depict passages from his Gospel - it is worth reflecting and praying.

Salerno Cathedral impresses with its beautifully preserved stylistic elements of Arab-Norman architecture from the 11th century. A beautiful double antechamber with mosaics in the nave and the unique, Baroque-style crypt with the tomb of St. Matthew are worth a visit. Tickets are available for the cathedral only, the cathedral + Diocesan Museum, or the cathedral + Museum + Church of San Giorgio. Plan for an hour just to visit the cathedral.

Magnificent Duomo with a courtyard adorned with Roman columns. The Byzantine metal door is exceptional for its size, age, and craftsmanship. The interior of the cathedral features magnificent mosaics behind the altar. A paid visit is required, but it's well worth the detour.

I come to the cathedral every time I have the chance. It is a beautiful church, a clever mix of different styles and periods: Byzantine, Norman, Romanesque with an oriental touch... a special praise to the baroque crypt, nothing short of marvelous and home to the precious remains of San Matteo, patron saint of the city.

18/06/2025: Very suggestive location, welcoming staff and fast service, excellent pizza, I took a wrong diavola and also excellent the vastness of meat for the grill. Recommended
09/06/2025: The grill is on the road that leads to the village of Perdifumo, suspended in a veranda that opens onto an exciting panorama. The meat is excellent and the grilled vegetables have an intense flavor. But the thing that struck me most is the speed with which the dishes are served, which does not compromise the quality. However, you have to book well in advance, otherwise you risk never having dinner there.
