07/03/2024: The freshest seafood in Europe I'd say! The cold starter of jumbo prawns - gamberoni rossi - was a revelation. Simply out of this world, so sweet and juicy, and above all, fresh. I still dream about them! My friend from HongKong was in heaven when presented with the cold starter selection - all unbelievably fresh and delicious. The wine is outstanding to match the standard of the food. The service is friendly and very helpful. When we visited, Tiziano and his wife Rita who run the restaurant were at hand to advise us and their choices and friendliness made the visit pretty unforgettable. We'll be returning there every time we visit Brindisi. A complete gem of a family run restaurant with the best food ever!
03/03/2024: I was lucky enough to recently dine at Ristorante Da Umberto in Otranto, and boy, what a find! Already from the outside, the place invites you to enter, with that terrace that seems made especially for enjoying a summer evening in the company of a good fish dish.
Service? Impeccable. They make you feel as if you were the only customer in the restaurant, with attention and attention to detail that are now rare to find. And then, the staff knows their stuff: they guide you in choosing the dishes with competence and passion, telling you the story behind each ingredient. You can tell they love what they do.
But let's move on to the highlight of the evening: the food. I chose a seafood appetizer that was a poem to the palate, followed by a spaghetti with seafood that made me seriously think about moving to Otranto just to eat it every day. And the fish? Very fresh, cooked to perfection, with that flavor of the sea that makes you close your eyes and smile.
I didn't think that a dinner could transform into an almost mystical experience, but Da Umberto succeeded. And then, having dinner under that pergola, with the evening breeze caressing you... guys, it was like living a dream.
In conclusion, if you are in Otranto and are looking for a place to eat well, Da Umberto is the place for you. It's not just eating, it's having an experience that will stay with you. I can't wait to go back.
