Excellent bakery where you can find one of the best breads in Matera. The staff also speaks English, a quid to satisfy tourist requests.

Entering Il Forno Di Gennaro means entering an authentic place of popular culture in the city of Matera. Entering Il Forno Di Gennaro means embarking on an authentic journey into the taste, history and traditions of a genuine white art activity since 1890, jealously guarded and handed down from father to son. The internal tasting room, with the exposed bakery laboratory, will allow you to appreciate the aromas and fragrance of freshly baked products, accompanied by the excellent local wines. On this very interesting journey you will be accompanied by the sweetness and kindness of Mrs Anna, the absolute competence of Patrizia, the smile and friendliness of Sabrina and the stainless service of Tonino.

Panificio Il Forno di Gennaro: A Must-Visit in Matera for Bread Lovers. If you're looking for an authentic taste of Matera, look no further than Panificio Il Forno di Gennaro. This family-run bakery has been serving up delicious bread and traditional Lucanian products for generations. We recently had the pleasure of participating in a tasting at the bakery, and we were blown away by the quality and flavor of the food. We started with a selection of different types of bread, including the famous Pane di Matera DOP, which is made with semolina flour from local durum wheat. The bread was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, and it had a wonderful nutty flavor. We also tried a variety of other traditional products, such as taralli (savory crackers), friselle (twice-baked bread), stuffed focaccia and biscotti (cookies). All of the products were made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and they were absolutely delicious. In addition to the amazing food, we also had the pleasure of meeting Patrizia, Denisa, Anna, and Sabrina, the lovely women who run the bakery. They were all so warm and welcoming, and they were passionate about sharing their love of bread with us. We learned so much about the history of bread making in Matera, and we left the bakery feeling like we had made new friends. If you're in Matera, I highly recommend stopping by Panificio Il Forno di Gennaro. You won't be disappointed! 5 stars for the quality of the pizza, 5 stars for the service and 5 stars for the environment. Pleasant refreshment stop based on various types of pizza slices. Internal tasting room with open bakery laboratory. Drinks available. Problem-free digestion. I recommend it without reservation.

Love this bakery and the sisters and their mom who continue their family’s 100+ year trade. Their bread, focaccia, etc. are some of the best in the city and you can learn about the history of Matera’s bread in their well-organized bread-making workshop.

03/11/2024: Fantastic discovery to say the least! We were in the village for a short stay, fantastic welcome, everyone was super kind and friendly, food beyond expectations! Small tip, try all the starters, they are exceptional, the first course with crusco pepper is delicious. If we are passing through or in the surrounding area, Il Caminetto will be our fixed stop! 23/08/2024: Abbiamo soggiornato due notti in questa splendida masseria fortificata del 500, a pochi minuti di auto da Matera. Eccezionali l’accoglienza e la gentilezza dei proprietari, che ci hanno dato utilissimi consigli per la visita della città e per la scelta di ristoranti per la cena, dove abbiamo mangiato benissimo. Le camere sono molto confortevoli e silenziose. Raramente abbiamo potuto usufruire di una colazione così eccezionale per quantità e qualità dei prodotti, assolutamente genuini, fatti in casa o provenienti dalla annessa azienda agricola. Il rapporto qualità prezzo è eccellente. Sicuramente vi ritorneremo, se visiteremo ancora Matera. 10 e lode!
30/06/2024: Un gioiello nella campagna a 5’ dall’incantevole Matera. Pernottare in questa masseria è stata un’esperienza che ci porteremo nel cuore: location molto suggestiva, questa masseria domina la campagna circostante, tutto è curato egregiamente in ogni singolo dettaglio, camere grandi, molto spaziose, frigobar con acqua a disposizione per gli ospiti e macchina per il caffè. Ottima colazione con prodotti locali, latte appena munto, marmellate e torte fatte in casa, pane, brioches e pizza appena sfornati, affettati, scamuzzo, succhi di frutta, frutta, tutto davvero buonissimo. E non può assolutamente mancare la nota di merito al padrone di casa, Pasquale, un ragazzo gentilissimo che sa cosa significa “accoglienza “ sempre disponibile e attento a suggerire come poter godere appieno della bellezza di Matera e dintorni facendoti immergere con entusiasmo nella storia della sua masseria e della Basilicata.
