osteria la specola In Sapri

An excellent restaurant very close to the seafront. We chose the cod alla specola and the paccheri with swordfish and eggplant. Special thanks to the waitress who served us with care and professionalism.

A perfect kitchen with dishes executed to perfection

This restaurant has a brightly lit, spacious indoor room - several tables were occupied by Italian families - and a long warmly lit outdoor courtyard decorated with suspended paper parasols. The food was fine. We had two pasta dishes, which were nice - my Paccieri was seriously chewy, which I didn't mind - followed by deep fried battered calamari and prawns (fried fish of the day) and grilled squid. The fried fish was fresh. The squid was rubbery and dry - it was a good jaw workout. We had two mixed salads on the side, which were not great compared to other salads I've had in Sapri. The service was prompt and efficient. The meal was fine overall: it seemed expensive for fairly standard food but I guess you pay a premium for the spacious seating, the soft music and the floating parasols.

Long wait times, good main courses, but the flaw was the spaghetti alla Specola. It was definitely made from the frozen mix and had a nasty smell. In a seaside town, serve fresh fish; leave frozen for the big cities.

The charming and intimate outdoor setting is ideal for couples. A selection of regional wines, fresh seafood, and a variety of first courses are available. For celiacs, they offer appetizers and main courses, but not bread or pasta.

It was recommended to me by friends, and it was the right choice. Everything was delicious, and the staff were very polite. The appetizer, first course, and second course were all generously prepared, but with meticulous attention to the seasoning. I'll definitely be back.
