Osteria La Montanara In Canazei

Very authentic place in Canazei with good food and good service. The menu is not big but everything you get is great and down to earth.

Dishes and quality are standard

There were 4 of us at dinner, and the quality was low for the price. They didn't serve traditional mountain dishes, the shank was very fatty, and the rind was inedible!

We dined here during a short vacation. The food was good, the prices reasonable, and the staff welcoming. What some might find a drawback (but not ours) is the wooden tables where you eat close to other people.

Good food, but chaotic service, also English menu is just pictures of the menu items with no names or descriptions of the dishes.

The food was excellent! However, it took a long time to arrive, and the waiter who served us got our order wrong, so we couldn't try what we wanted. When it came time to pay the bill, they didn't compensate us, which was a shame.

We went for dinner during our half-week skiing holiday. The tables are shared, but you still enjoy privacy. The dinner was very good; we had tortelli with venison ragù and bean soup. The service was quick and the waiters were very kind. The house wine was very good. They also offered us two grappas to round off the dinner.

I'm having a hard time leaving a glowing review, even though I've been going there for years and have always had a great experience. I'll try to be objective and find the positives. Starting this year (2025/2026 season), you can only book on a monthly basis. I discovered this when I called the same day on December 31st to book for January 4th, only to receive an adamant "no" (only to accept the reservation 12 hours later). I understand all the organizational needs involved, but it seems really short-sighted to be so rigid. The inconvenience for customers is obvious, as it becomes really difficult to get around and organize. Instead, if you need "more reliable" reservations (as some review responses have indicated), try booking them on a monthly basis, but open your calendar every day. That said, the price has frankly become inappropriate for the quality and atmosphere of the venue. I'm listing one of my favorite dishes over the years: sliced ​​roast beef with grilled vegetables. 2020: €22 2023: €26 2025: €30 2026: ? La Montanara presents itself, even in name, as an osteria. In my opinion, they've gone a bit too far with the prices, which now clash with the setting. I'm happy to accept the backless bench, the lack of hangers, the lack of tablecloths, and the osteria-like atmosphere even if the prices are osteria-like. On the plus side: all the dishes I've tried are good, especially the excellent and rare variety of grilled vegetables paired with the grilled meat. Excellent homemade desserts, and kind and friendly staff.

We had lunch here on the first day of 2026. What can I say? It was a fantastic experience: the food was delicious, but above all, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. There are four of us, including two small children, and we're certainly not the most ordinary customers, but we felt pampered and helped! Thank you, and keep it up! We'll see you again!

Food is very basic, prices don’t match the quality. We were disappointed after reading the reviews on Google and expected something better.
