It's not the first time I've been there with my family, and apart from the really good food, it's a very welcoming place, with a beautiful, well-kept setting and, last but not least, the kind and friendly staff.

Going through Valsassina on the provincial road, we saw the tavern and stopped there, we ate very well and we will return.

A landmark. The salted butter and spectacular appetizers. Osteria Il Camino is located at Via Provinciale 33, Ballabio (LC), not far from the exit of the tunnel that connects the Lario road with the climb to Valsassina—making it the perfect stop for a gourmet meal when heading up into the mountains. The restaurant presents itself as a reimagined traditional mountain restaurant: natural materials, wood and stone, warm walls, a large fireplace that gives the place its name and character, and a spacious dining room that manages to maintain a rustic yet elegant intimacy. In warmer seasons, there's also a terrace for those who prefer to eat al fresco. In short, the atmosphere exudes a sense of familiarity with style: it's not a "rough cabin," but a space where every detail—lighting, materials, table layout—is carefully considered. Il Camino's culinary philosophy is clearly local, featuring mountain dishes, reinterpretations of local classics, and a few forays into lakeside tradition.  The chef (and sommelier) is Pietro Agostani, a young and passionate man who also oversees the restaurant's wine selection.

Well-kept and clean place, good service, good food too (perhaps the portions are a little small), anyway good value for money.

Everything was really good in a welcoming atmosphere with a memorable table setting.

Abbiamo organizzato una cena aziendale al Camino di Ballabio, e non avremmo potuto fare scelta migliore. Il menù è stato proposto direttamente da Pietro, il titolare, che ha saputo interpretare al meglio i nostri gusti e le nostre esigenze. L’organizzazione è stata impeccabile: tutto è filato liscio, con tempi perfetti e un servizio davvero attento e cortese. I piatti? Semplicemente eccellenti: materie prime di altissima qualità, porzioni abbondanti e persino il bis, offerto con generosità e sorriso. In un panorama dove spesso conta solo l’apparenza, Il Camino rappresenta l’essenza della sostanza: si mangia davvero bene, si è accolti con calore e il rapporto qualità-prezzo è ormai una rarità. Tutti i nostri ospiti sono rimasti entusiasti, e sono certo che questa serata ha fatto guadagnare al locale una quarantina di nuovi affezionati clienti. Torneremo presto. Complimenti!

Prima volta e ci torneremo per dare un’altra opportunità perché ci siamo trovati bene e perché gli altri piatti erano buoni. Spero che come è fatta la taragna sia un caso, tantissimo formaggio, la polenta neanche si sentiva, collosa, filamentosa, pesante da digerire. Ne ho mangiate tantissime, ma questa no (la migliore per noi dall’antica osteria del casari a Concenedo, va prenotata), abbiamo preso anche lungo la troggia, la trippa (molto buona) e la triglia (molto buona e delicata). Servizio molto bene. Conto non proprio basso. Mi spiace per la taragna, spero non sia sempre così. Da un milanese milanista
