If you happen to pass through Piglio, in the province of Frosinone, there's a place you absolutely must try: Pompeo's Osteria del Vicolo Fatato. It's a true gem, a small and welcoming place where the food is truly delicious. The atmosphere is warm, familiar, and a bit rustic...just like the osterias of old. What I was pleasantly surprised by is that there's no printed menu: Pompeo tells you in person what's good that day. Each dish is prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and you can taste the love for traditional cuisine, with a creative touch... the food is exquisite, the portions are just right, and you can see the attention to every detail. The service is attentive but never intrusive, and Pompeo knows how to make you feel at home, always with a smile... the prices are fair, which doesn't hurt. My heartfelt advice: it's best to reserve, especially on weekends, because there aren't many seats and the place gets very busy.

An authentic tavern, where tradition and taste meet perfectly. The menu is varied, built with local and seasonal ingredients. The appetizer was a real journey through flavors: 8 delicious courses, each better than the last. The trio of second courses was excellent, with a truly unforgettable diaphragm stew, very tender and tasty. The local Cesanese wine accompanied everything beautifully. Popular prices and very high quality. An atmosphere of times gone by, welcoming and genuine. Very kind staff. A place I will definitely return to!

Already when you book, you feel that there is something different, you are asked if there are people with allergies or with different needs. And then already the atmosphere of walking in the village of Piglio. Then when you go down the stairs and enter the restaurant you feel the 60s/70s style. Mr. Pompeo welcomes you, always with a smile, he makes you sit down and the symphony of flavors and aromas begins. Each dish is described to you in great detail and then you get advice for the wine, strictly Cesanese for the red. Price a good quality-price ratio and it's true.

On the evening of June 10, 2025, we had dinner at Osteria del Vicolo Fatato. Finally, a small and ancient tavern, where you can eat healthy, unusual food, cooked on the spot and presented very well, linked to the territory and above all to seasonality. Nestled in the historic center of Piglio, a very pretty mountain village. More than excellent value for money. Reservations are recommended in good time, as it is difficult to find a place. I highly recommend it.

We have known this award-winning restaurant for many years and we had a great time again. The menu is seasonal and always changes with great imagination from the chef. Cellar with excellent wines from the area famous for its wineries. Very polite service

Nel corso degli anni sono venuto molte volte in questa magica osteria e credo di aver condiviso qualche recensione... Non mi dilungo a tessere le lodi di Pompeo e consorte, mi limito a fare loro i complimenti perché gli anni passano ma la loro professionalità e la qualità dei cibi è sempre altissima!!

I consumed all the appetizers (6 very tasty courses) and the 3 very INTERESTING first courses. I have rebooked for the end of May to be able to taste the second courses and possibly the desserts. I forgot the wine... it is worth trying. Finally, I want to applaud Pompeo and his wife for their skill, professionalism and FRIENDLINESS.

Ambiente caldo e caratteristico, piccolo ma con tavoli ben distanziati. L'antipasto si compone di otto portate che variano di volta in volta a seconda della stagionalità (oggi, ad esempio: prosciutto locale, sformatino di ricotta e cavolo nero con julienne di rapa rossa, crespelle agli asparagi, cestini di cannellini zucca e cicoria, carciofi ripieni, patate grattugiate ripiene di verza e mortadella con fonduta di erborinato di pecora, polpettine di agnello con crema di topinambur e puntarelle, involtini di maiale ripieni di radicchio e prosciutto affumicato con crema all'arancia. Segue poi una scelta di tre primi e tre secondi (volendo si possono avere assaggini di due o tre pietanze). I dolci li ho visti passare, invitanti, ma non ce l'ho fatta. Poi acqua, mezzo litro di cesanese, caffè e liquori della casa (offerti). Il tutto per 40 euro a persona. Vale alla grande il viaggio da Roma, ma prenotate con largo anticipo! I proprietari sono gentilissimi, si alternano sia ai fornelli che in sala illustrando dettagliatamente le portate, e facendoti sentire uno di casa.
