When I made my reservation (as a former restaurateur, I don't go to a restaurant without booking in advance), I was a little hesitant when asked if I wanted to have lunch during the first or second sitting. I immediately pictured a somewhat chaotic place. We arrived and found parking in the designated area, which wasn't very large, I must say, but that's not their fault; it's already a good thing. They didn't give us much time to choose our dishes, since we were in the first sitting, but we arrived on time, so they seemed to be a bit thoughtful. For starters, we had a charcuterie board and a cheese wheel, both good and plentiful. The polenta vigezzina was superb, I must say; we left it aside because it was so plentiful. It could have been a main course, as far as our stomachs were concerned. The wine by the glass was decent, but we didn't have room for dessert. The price wasn't the cheapest, but it was quite reasonable. It's not a place where you can enjoy a good lunch in peace, given the crowd that was there, but the dishes were still good.

Osteria del Mercante is a must-try in Santa Maria Maggiore. The food is exceptional, the staff is always very friendly and attentive, and the signature dish is tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms. Excellent value for money.

Convenient restaurant on the main road, very good tagliatelle with mushrooms, fair price, air conditioning inside not working, barely adequate parking, a small misunderstanding led us to eat the polenta and ragù starter at the end of the meal.

Awkward service. We sat down around 12:15 and ordered a cheese and charcuterie board to share, two tagliatelle with venison sauce, two gnocchi, and two tagliata with porcini mushrooms. The platters were good and served almost immediately. The first courses arrived shortly afterward—good gnocchi, overcooked tagliatelle, venison missing...from there, we were completely lost. The tagliata arrived at after 2:00 PM after three requests with no response; they were served with roast potatoes that were obscene. The bill was steep, which is a shame because the place is really cute, both inside and out.

Piatti abbondanti e gustosi, con specialità del giorno oltre ai piatti da menù. Antipasti sfiziosi e saporiti. Polenta con diversi accompagnamenti (cervo, capriolo, agnello, alla vigezzina, con salsicce o bruscitt...). Personale cortese e simpatico, ma non invadente.
Ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo (circa €35 a testa per antipasto, polenta con carne e dolce). Ci torneremo !
