OSTERIA DEL GALLO In Roma

A charming little spot on a side street. We stumbled upon it by chance and didn't regret it. We had a delicious lunch (bruschetta with tomatoes, fried zucchini flowers, and lardo with delicious caramelized onions). The service was very friendly. We weren't charged a coperto (which was nice), but we didn't need to be persuaded to leave a tip.

Good, tasty food, the quantity is a bit smaller than in other restaurants, especially since the price is a bit higher!

Very good, a small restaurant off the beaten track, we went there based on online reviews. The waiter was very friendly, however, the wine prices were a bit steep. Avoid it, just order the cheapest one. Otherwise, overall, we had a very good meal for a reasonable price.

A quiet osteria, we had an appetizer from Gallo, with delicious Apulian dairy products like ricotta, smoked scamorza, burrata, and good cold cuts like prosciutto, spicy salami, etc. Then my husband and I shared a Cacio e Pepe and an Amatriciana... very good! Recommended 🍷🍷🍷🍷

We got here accidentally, the other place our friends recommended was closed. It was the best food experience in Rome. Usually the restaurants so overrated, you see 4.5 stars reviews and the reality it 2 stars quality. This place is not like other restaurants, here you can find a good variety of dishes and the portions are big. Highly recommended!

I visited Osteria del Gallo, located on a quiet side street near the center of Rome, and I must say I was immediately struck by the atmosphere. It's one of those places that don't make a fuss, but welcome you with a simple, almost family-like warmth. The atmosphere is intimate, refined without being pretentious, and it immediately gave me the feeling of entering a true Roman osteria. As soon as I sat down, I realized that the cuisine here is taken seriously. I ordered a traditional first course and received a dish that smelled of Rome: just the right portions, intense yet balanced flavors, and nothing overdone. The carbonara was just the right amount of creaminess, and the cacio e pepe had that authentic roughness I always look for. For my second course, I tried the meat, simple but well-cooked, with ingredients that tasted fresh and authentic. The service was one of the most pleasant aspects: the staff were kind, smiling, and very helpful without ever being intrusive. They made me feel at home, as if I were a regular. The timing is also a plus: everything is served slowly, but without any unnerving waits. There are, however, a few things to be aware of. The restaurant isn't large, so reservations are recommended, especially in the evening. Furthermore, as is often the case with downtown trattorias, the prices aren't exactly cheap: they're not excessive, but some items (especially wine and other beverages) can be a bit steep. Despite this, I found the overall quality-price ratio to be fair. I also noticed that some customers complained about the quality fluctuating on certain days: I was fine with that, but I'll point it out. All in all, I ate well at Osteria del Gallo and had a great time. It's a sincere place, with Roman cuisine prepared as it should be and a welcome that makes you want to return. If you're looking for an authentic place, far from the usual tourist restaurants, this is a place I'd happily recommend. --- If you'd like, I can make it shorter, more ironic, or more "poetic."
