I hadn't even sat down when the waitress came to take my order, so I explained that I needed a minute to sit down. Very rudely, she left in a huff and then returned aggressively. Order before you get to Bologna.

I'm in Bologna for a meeting with some friends.
We're meeting at Caffè della Repubblica.
A beautiful bar, spacious, bright, and very well stocked.
Sweet and savory treats for all tastes, there's plenty to choose from.
A series of unique coffees, and everything for aperitivo.
Excellent choice.

I have no idea why other tourists didn't experience this café the way we did. We used to get coffee and a croissant here every morning. The first time, I told the cashier that I was trying to order in Italian, and she was delighted.
Always a smile, delicious coffee, and excellent pastries and paninis. These are brought out fresh in the morning, and they're available while supplies last.

I went to Nuovo Caffe del Porto for breakfast. It's a spacious place, with friendly and professional staff and a wide selection of both sweet and savoury pastries.

A pleasant place about a 20-minute walk from the center of Bologna. This means there are fewer tourists, so we had no trouble finding a seat. Our desserts were okay, but, as is typical in Italy, they were quite intensely sweet. The coffee was very good.
The restaurant is self-service, so you have to pick up your order yourself. We chose outside seats, so we sat on the street. It might not be the typical Italian atmosphere, but it was pleasant nonetheless.

The price for two cappuccinos, one sandwich and two sweet pastries was €15 so the value is quite reasonable.
The brown cappuccino was made well and original.
Unfortunately it is located quite close to some large trash containers so there were flies pestering persistently. Lastly, the service, while not rude it was cold.
Sit inside if possible.
