A small, cozy place with just a few tables and a warm welcome that makes you feel like you're among friends. Authentic, locally sourced food, fair prices, and generous portions. The appetizers are excellent.

A truly delightful lunch on our San Nilo hike. And in November, no less, when we've rarely been so well looked after on the trail. Wonderful pasta, delicious main courses, simple desserts – a truly wonderful experience. Topped off with an excellent wine recommendation. Unexpectedly delightful!

We visited this place with friends, and immediately noticed a very shabby place. We ordered a platter of cured meats and cheeses, with vegetables for six, beautifully displayed but not very generous, but of decent quality. We also had a sampling of three typical local first courses served in sperlunghe (typical pasta dishes), which were very good and plentiful. Drinks (water and Coke, including a quart of local red wine) were recommended, along with some homemade desserts served in small portions. They were decent. The bill was a surprise: €39 per person, for a total of €238. There was no receipt, just an order receipt that included the coffees. Given that, as a rule, good hospitality usually includes coffee or amaro, I felt it was truly excessive to pay such a high price for a platter shared between six and a sampling of three first courses. This place offers very poor value for money. I would not recommend it and would not return.

I stopped in with a colleague by chance on my way back from Oasi dei Capelli di Venere (I literally smelled the sauce as I drove past and parked). Highly recommended, the owners are very kind, and their homemade cuisine is nothing short of exceptional: Cavatelli paesani, Cilento olives, local cured meats, Casalettana sauce, and Aglianico. What more could you ask for? The prices are also very reasonable. I'll definitely be back!!!

We visited the Cascate Capelli di Venere oasis and then had lunch at this restaurant, where we found traditional, high-quality products. The owner, a friendly and cheerful man, introduced us to local traditions, not just culinary ones. The cuisine is authentic, with traditional flavors at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

I recommend it to anyone walking the Camino de San Nilo. I love pizza/focaccia and I love mushrooms. One might think... well, a banal pizza, but NO! I think I've eaten the best porcini mushroom focaccia of my life! (PS: I'm a baker's daughter). Focaccia base (fantastic dough, not heavy and well-leavened), mashed boiled potatoes, porcini mushrooms, cruschi pepper powder, and a few basil leaves... Nooo, well done! 💯

Very good food and excellent value for money. BUT, the owner lets a table of children (8 or 10) sit there, screaming and running around without ever correcting them. It's unbearable.

Hotel Scapolatiello

05/01/2026: Very friendly and helpful staff, entrance difficult to access by car due to a very narrow passage between the houses (but there is a large closed parking lot 150 meters away)
28/12/2025: We spent Christmas with our 5-year old in this great little hotel hidden away from the busy town centre of Cava de Tirreni. The room isn't full luxury, a little dated, but it has a lot of personalities. The views from the hotel are stuning. Staff members are super nice and very accommodating, nothing seem a bother. Located behind it is a rather big (late 1300s) cathedral - Territorial Abbey of La Trinità della Cava. This is a "must-see" if you stay at the hotel. I was blown away by the interior of the church as it didn't seem to be much from the outside. It's a lot (a LOT) bigger on the inside. There are guide tours available at price of 3€ to see more than just a main church. One thing to note is that, in case you decided to drive, it's quite a challenging journey. The road is small and windy, loads of blind corners, unless you're familiar with all the streets, or a seasoned Italian driver, I'd recommend to avoid it. There is a local bus (No. 61) that will take you from the hotel to Cava town centre. We had to organise daily taxi pick-up and drop-off from/to the hotel due to Christmas period. But was easy enough to do via WhatsApp messages. You may also want to do a day trip in Pompei while youre here. It's easy to get to by train from the Cava station. And Salerno is only 2 stops away the other direction.
