La Santa In Genova

The restaurant, located in a secluded and slightly run-down alley although close to busy transit areas, is a typical Genoese trattoria. Inside you can relive the authentic atmosphere of the past. Nothing to do with those shabby chic places that want to recreate false settings of the past... only ending up being a pathetic and botched imitation. Here time really stopped... the eighties music broadcast, quietly, by Babboleo radio in the background underlined this. This is not a criticism, however. In fact it feels like entering grandma's dining room, who is lovingly preparing tasty dishes for us in the kitchen. The scent, light, expands and announces the meal. Even the discreet and friendly service... at the right times, makes it clear that, here, modern frenzy does not enter. Where to find a place with a cart of bitters and a serving cupboard, large and in full view, today when in other places to make money every square centimeter of space is exploited with crowded tables? For some it might perhaps seem too old-fashioned? A question of taste..., but sometimes with food you don't just have to satisfy the taste, but also the heart and the mind, with memories. We ate well based on fish while spending little... or at least on average. Experience to be repeated.

"Good evening, have you been open for a long time? I didn't know you" "Since 1400". Thus begins one of the most fun dinners that as a Genoese I have been able to have to date. The place exudes Genoeseness in its ways and tastes. Those looking for refined dishes and affected and kind ways look elsewhere. Everything is simple, real and honest like your mother's cooking (including your Genoese mother who you didn't know you had).

At first glance, a place that doesn't look like much, it must be admitted, in an unattractive alley... But once through the door you take a trip back in time and it's like my Italian great-grandmother's house. The cuisine is unpretentious but it is efficient and unbeatable, the tourist menu gives frank Italian flavors and that is what we are looking for as an experience. 13 euros for 1 primo 1 secondo it's unbeatable. Local exchanges with the boss, a great human and culinary experience.

La Santa non si può non amarla, con tutti i pregi e tutti i difetti, è un luogo mistico, una capsula del tempo. Da frequentare ogni volta che ti chiedi se un ricordo è qualcosa che si ha o qualcosa che si è perduto. Serve per capire Genova.
