The other evening I had dinner with my partner in this historic restaurant in Riccione
I say historical because it is about thirty years old, if not a few more
I remember that as a kid I came here on holiday with my parents and I literally saw this place born from scratch
It was owned by the Leardini family, the same family that owns the Lungomare hotel, the MonCheri and their respective neighboring beach establishments
I have been going to this place for years and years, since it was called Boom, which then changed its name to Hoops, and then became the Birrerai Brambo restaurant
I was here at the explicit request of my partner who, being vegan, wanted to eat something to her liking
In fact here, in addition to burgers, chicken breasts, pizza cooked in an electric oven, they also make 2 vegan dishes
I personally ordered a plate of white basmati rice (with a subsequent request to add tomato sauce), a grilled chicken breast and some boiled potatoes
However, since the boiled potatoes were too complex to prepare (they didn't have them), I asked for a simple dish of carrots (without adding anything else)
The strange thing is that both the carrots, the rice and the chicken were all brought to me at the same time
There wasn't room on the table (place for two) to fit everything, so I asked if I could kindly have the chicken breast later, perhaps after having finished eating the rice (as would have been normal practice).
The rice however, even here I don't understand why, was orange in colour
That is, just a splash of sauce had been added, which had not even been enough to season the dish and, at the same time, had not even been enough to dirty the plate!!!!
The rice was so dry, that with that little sauce, it had turned orange!
Whoa!
Maybe they didn't have any left in the kitchen!
In the meantime, the vegan dish ordered by my partner had also arrived
Once I finished eating, I went to the cashier to pay
Having done this too, while I was waiting for her to go to the bathroom, not knowing what to do, I started looking at the receipt
My eye literally fell on the price
of that small plate of plain carrots I had ordered
There were two items that made it up: one costing €3.80, the other €0.60, for a total of €4.40
Out of curiosity I asked the cashier for explanations
M was told that, the €3.80 was the cost of the
only empty plate, and the remaining €0.60 was the cost of the carrots!
That is, for the restaurant (as it was explained to me twice) the empty plate alone costs €3.80, then you have to add what you put on it!
I swear to you that I had never heard something like this to the point that I really struggled to understand it
Moral of the story, a dish with 50/60 g of carrots without anything else, I paid €4.40
Not to mention €4.70 for a bottle of coke zero!!
I come from Milan and, when I go out for dinner, if you pay between €3-3.50 for a drink, it's already average, but even €4.70...
Thank God, I manage to eat 5 meals a day, so mine wasn't a question of money, but the thing that gave me an enormous and disappointing sense of unease was that I literally felt taken for granted.
sit... to say the least
I was really sorry to have received such treatment from a place that I literally, in the true sense of the word, saw born
I even went to its inauguration!
Obviously, unfortunately, I will never set foot there again
I know well that the owner doesn't care or care at all about having lost customers, but perhaps I hope that next time they will be a little less venal and a little more empathetic.
The food isn't bad, but I didn't really like the treatment I received
