The best thing in Summer in Rome!

A fruity, sweet refreshment. Perfect for a hot day. The kiosk is located right on the banks of the Tiber. Plastic chairs are set up along the street for you to sit on.

I haven't found a place like this anywhere else. Granita ice cream made from huge blocks, freshly made. Juices are also available, making it the perfect refreshment in the Roman heat. Whenever I return to Rome, I return to this place.

A great time in Rome. Delicious drinks in a century-old shop. The waiter very kindly gave us a postcard from the person who founded the place around 1913. We highly recommend this very friendly place!

Magical place, home of the Rome specialty Grattachecca, managed by the same family from over a century. Grattachecca has nothing to do with granita, built on freshly made ice and filled with fresh fruits and syrups poured in the spot, it is amazing to watch and of course to eat it.

If you're going to Rome in the summer, a must-do! Need to cool off for next to nothing? Grab a grattachecca. It's a small, traditional stand, and the owner and her son are incredibly friendly.

This review is shamelessly biased! I was born in Trastevere, more precisely at number 108 above the Casali bar (who knows if it's still there...), so I've been coming here to eat grattachecca (or rather, I should say, I used to come here) since I was a child: I still remember those big ice sticks that were scraped and the crushed ice ended up in the glasses. There were only a few flavors, but back then—we're talking the early 1960s—there wasn't as much choice as there is now. And then, nearby, in the summer, there was also the watermelon seller. And there wasn't that disgusting little train that doesn't let you cross Viale Trastevere anymore. How beautiful you are, Rome ❤️
