Behind the city's main square, which acts as a curtain, enveloped in an Ozpetekian atmosphere, lies one of this area's finest restaurants. 'Povero' has a natural elegance, nothing affected, like sirtaki played in a garden at night. The cuisine is as perfect as cashmere on the skin, the flavors rounded and refined. The staff is professional, with a kindness that seemed to have dissipated over time. You can always find something in this restaurant. I think it's one of the most refined and beautiful places in this wonderful land. Angela, the owner, has created a rarefied atmosphere of delicacy and magic. It's an essential stop for anyone thinking of visiting this city!

Excellent food, with a well-stocked and attractive cured meats and cheese counter, a wide selection of wines, and very friendly staff: a place that gives tourists a wonderful impression of Lecce!

I'll start by saying that, despite being listed on Google Maps only as a food and wine restaurant, this is also an excellent bistro/trattoria. It's a small place, with the left side occupied by a long counter stocked with fresh local produce and excellent products from other areas. In warmer temperatures, you can also eat outside. Let's get to the food: although the menu also includes recipes and ingredients not strictly from Salento, presented in original combinations, we chose and shared: - Frisa with cherry tomatoes and arugula, Martinafranca capocollo, fresh Salento cheeses - Eggplant, pepper, and caper caponata - Fava beans and chicory with croutons - Eggplant parmigiana - Almond mousse Everything was truly delicious, from the first bite to the last, with excellent ingredients. Every dish offers an unexpected surprise: the Frisa, for example, made with burnt wheat and cereals; among the fresh cheeses, a delicious ricotta and others flavored with chili pepper, pistachio, and more; Striped caponata with a delicate sweet and sour sauce; textbook fava beans and chicory, so balanced in flavors and textures that they top my personal Salento ranking; almond mousse beyond all expectations. The parmigiana deserves a special mention: good, but surprisingly made with a ground beef ragù that, even though it was present in very small quantities, I personally would have preferred not to find. But this is a matter of personal preference, so much so that my companion liked this version precisely because it differs from the classic basil sauce. The dishes were beautifully presented. Attentive and courteous service, and although the table was set with a paper placemat, the cutlery was replaced after each course. The price was absolutely fair considering the quality and quantity. I recommend coming and trying it for yourself; it's definitely worth it.

Don't look at the low ratings given by others who didn't mention the food. This deli was recommended to me by a resident of central Lecce, and it proved to be EXCELLENT both for the quality of the products and the attentive, friendly service. All the typical dishes were carefully and kindly explained by the waiter. I tried the orecchiette with turnip tops, which my companion, who is from Puglia, also loved. He found them expertly cooked, with an excellent blend of ingredients that brought out the flavor. All this in a beautiful little square in the historic center, where you can sit indoors or outdoors. The recommended local wine, a Negroamaro, was also excellent. I highly recommend it!

I tried these wonderful beef meatballs today, incredibly good. The sauce was spectacular, and as a Calabrian, it tasted like I was eating at my grandmother's. Compliments, the staff were fast and super friendly. I highly recommend them.
