Da Barbone In

This resturant certainly doesn’t warrant all of its negative reviews. We went late evening and it was a nice temperature, sat directly overlooking the sea on a beautiful clear night. There was a slight language barrier on our part being English, but nothing that prevented us ordering what we needed and the waiting staff were very polite and accommodating. The food was wonderful and the fish was very flavoursome and fresh. That being said, this isn’t the most extravagant restaurant with the most creative or exciting dishes, but it certainly isn’t as awful as people have made it out to be, so do be careful what you read!

Unfortunately, service has deteriorated... The way the food was prepared was no longer top class :( And that was it! It's a shame - but for so much money... 2024: We came back after a long time and it was worth it: very tasty, beautifully presented, vino locale delicious - thumbs up!

This modest restaurant right on the beautiful beach of Santa Maria was one of our favourite spots in our trip to Calabria. The food was delicious - particularly the beautifully cooked octopus and creamed potato. We went for lunch both times, and the atmosphere was laid back, no fuss. Maybe language barrier is a cause for some of the negative feedback - but this is hardly unusual in Calabria, learn some Italian or just be patient! Would recommend! Grazie mille Da Barbone!

L'endroit est très bien en bord de plage, c'est cela qui nous a donné l'envie d'y aller. Les plats sont corrects sans plus, la jeune fille très aimable compense l'accueil froid de la personne qui semble être la patronne, désolés si nous l'avons fait travailler.

Excellent fish cooked in a simple way as it is very fresh!!!! We had a grilled catch of the day with red snapper, sea bream, swordfish, octopus and prawns, one better than the other in terms of cooking and cooking, the octopus then, being grilled, was still tender inside Then a portion of fried surici, or scallop fish, a Calabrian specialty and I must say that although it is not a preview of fried barbed fish, these were fantastic, very fresh, crunchy and golden on the outside and tender on the inside to melt in your mouth, a wonderful discovery! As a side dish, french fries, also cooked perfectly, and a delicious Tropean salad. At the end we were also offered an amaro del capo... what can I say??? Highly recommended, also for the location among other things as it is located right on the seashore and dining with the sound of the waves and the smell of salt is superb.
