Borgo Antico In Bojano

The owner is a "peculiar" type. First he scolded us because we hadn't booked (the restaurant was empty...). Then he asked us what we wanted to eat, without giving us a menu. We take a first course, a second course of meat (a rather tough cut) and a bottle of water. Final bill: 50 Euros round!!! We didn't complain because we didn't want to ruin our holiday, but it was definitely a bad surprise.

This is authentic country Italy ( more specifically Molise). This was my second visit to the Trattoria— the first was a visit in 2017 with friends It is in the town next to my ancestral village S Polo Matese..The cooking by the owner’s sweet wife who doesn’t venture out of the kitchen is fresh and regional. The mushrooms in our pasta dish were picked locally that morning and then topped with local sourced truffles. On each visit everything in the multi coarse meal was left to the owner and nothing disappointed except we had to say “basta” (enough). Other reviews talk of the owner’s surliness but this is a misjudgment. He has the character of curmudgeon uncle—he starts off a little gruff and by the second course he starts warming up and becomes talkative and in the end you’re hugging. Don’t miss out on this experience. My friends from my 2017 visit still talk about this meal and the entertaining character of the owner. I’m sure my more recent visit will have as lasting an effect.

Family atmosphere, tasty dishes with excellent quality products in a beautiful medieval village. Be careful though, before you start tasting the dishes served you have to wait for the friendly owner to explain the dish you are about to try 😅

A tavern with a real innkeeper! Excellent quality. Let yourself be led on a walk among local flavors, masterfully guided by Filindo. His frank ways are unquestionable, like the taste of his dishes. Since it's all homemade and fresh, it's best to book in advance, also because there aren't many places available. Recommended!😋😋
