We dined at Osteria del Bastian Contario twice during the first week of January and were absolutely delighted each time. The food is exceptionally delicious, especially the truffle dishes, which are simply outstanding. All four of us agreed that every dish was superbly prepared and perfectly balanced. The value for money is also excellent – ​​the quality of the food is very high, and the prices are more than fair. The service is friendly, attentive, and warm, making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. We're certain of one thing: We will gladly return anytime and can wholeheartedly recommend this osteria.

I wasn't thrilled with the experience. I ordered the tagliatelle with truffle, but while the pasta was undoubtedly homemade and top-notch, I found the truffle a bit bland. My wife ordered the gnocchi, which she enjoyed. I didn't particularly appreciate the place: above each table are "heat lamps" that get way too hot. You can turn off the one above your table, but if the ones at other tables are on, you can feel them quite a bit. To compensate for the heat, the door is left open, causing sudden changes in the air flow between hot and cold. I imagine this isn't a problem in the summer because all the heaters are presumably turned off. The service was appreciable.

A truly splendid restaurant in every way. The atmosphere is refined, welcoming, and relaxing, ideal for both a romantic dinner and an evening with friends. The food is high-quality, carefully prepared, and impeccably presented. Special praise goes to the staff: professional, friendly, and always available waiters, capable of making you feel immediately at home. An experience definitely worth repeating. Highly recommended!

Friendly staff, but the wait can be a bit long if you're in a hurry. The food was delicious, and the desserts were just as good… That was the main thing! It's a shame we were charged for two coffees when we only ordered our first one, which was taking a while… Probably due to a misunderstanding (we don't speak any Italian at all…)

The wine list was very reasonably priced, and the service was charming. Unfortunately, that was where the positives ended. The Cacio e Pepe were awful; prepared with béchamel sauce, it was simply a kitchen gimmick, and not at all tasty on the plate. We were told that this was the local way of preparing it. The Taglionelli with aubergine wasn't particularly delicious either. We didn't finish either dish. We wouldn't have used the Parmesan anyway, but it was also a day away from its expiration date. A shame.

Ordered takeout. What can I say? The food itself isn't bad, but considering the price, it's a poor value. The first course toppings are good, but the pasta and gnocchi themselves aren't anything special. The gratin potatoes with pistachios and pancetta are better.

08/09/2025: The location is enchanting, the staff are incredibly kind and welcoming, and the platter of local products from the Cerù salumificio itself is excellent. Definitely worth repeating.
02/09/2025: An oasis of peace with a stunning view of the sea and the plains in front of it! We were having a wonderful hike and unexpectedly stumbled upon this bar. The owner is Dutch, and the staff also came from there, speaking fluent English and Italian. It's ideal for a drink or a coffee during the hike and relaxing. The cook wasn't there in the afternoon, so we only had a Tuscan appetizer platter to satisfy our hunger. But it was absolutely fantastic!

Osteria Vecchio Casale ai Pioppi

29/12/2025: Went for dinner with colleagues in December 2025. The atmosphere was beautiful and well-kept, the food good, and the service decent (theoretically, you get little or no choice; in the end, they bring you what they say, but overall, that's fine). The only downside is that you have to be very careful with your cars; the restaurant has a large private, but unattended, parking lot. When we left, we found three out of five cars unlocked, and in one, the contents of the trunk were stolen. The restaurant doesn't have security cameras or security service except on weekends, and not always. It's a shame that the restaurant is worth it, as is the food, but after this bad experience, I don't think we'll be back. Eating while worrying about someone opening your car isn't ideal.
19/12/2025: Beautiful, well-maintained place, the rustic atmosphere perfectly complements the food, which is locally sourced, with some dishes perhaps a little salty, but still delicious. There's not a great selection of wines in the regions outside of Tuscany. The only downside is that the unattended parking has led to both my car and others being stolen, which, after the rather steep bill, wasn't easy to stomach.
