I was afraid that the various titles and awards were just a publicity stunt as usual, but instead it is truly a stratospheric ice cream shop. My heartfelt congratulations to all the staff.

I went back this summer for ice cream, but I have to say I didn't like it. The hazelnut tasted like nothing, and the dark chocolate didn't taste like anything... How can you say it's the best ice cream in Cilento? Here in Rome, there are some ice cream shops that are truly top-notch... Gutilla is one of my favorites, and I wouldn't compare it to Di Matteo at all. 🤨

Best gelato ever! Soo many flavours for example buffalo milk, nuts and fig, citrus and basil, mandarin and nuts! We tried and came back write the next day again. Love it!

A word of warning: you go here for the gelato. It's one of the best gelato shops in Italy, and the selection of flavors, as well as the quality of each one, is excellent. And trust me, I've eaten gelato before, even some famous ones (from Bottega del Gelato in Milan to Gatsby in Turin, Nettuno in Salerno, and a thousand others), but this is no exception: it's not a different category, it's a whole other sport. The selection varies based on the seasonality of the ingredients, especially for the fruit flavors, while it's more stable for the cream flavors (especially the vast array of grand crus). The highlight are the dried fruit flavors, especially almond and walnut: they're an unparalleled delight. The combinations are truly interesting: almond and mandarin, ricotta and pistachio, and chocolate figs are worth a trip in and of themselves. The selection varies from day to day, meaning you'll never find forty flavors (which, in my opinion, is synonymous with craftsmanship and attention to detail, without claiming to always satisfy everyone). The cone, in conclusion, is excellent quality (though not as good as gelato; a cup or brioche will do just as well). The service and location are a separate matter: despite the incredible quality of the product, Di Matteo is, through and through, a village bar. This means family-run operation, 1970s-style decor (recently renovated but still very homey), old men on plastic chairs, and very, very "rough" service. The splendid panoramic terrace is, however, noteworthy. The small cone costs €2.50, practically a gift. Stuff that in Milan would sell for at least double... Ratings (the rating is made up of 2/3 value for money and the remainder for location & service. Furthermore, they are all related to the type of place, in this case "village bar"): -Location & Service: 6 -Quality/Price: 10+ The average would be 9/10, which divided by two would give a 4.5/5; considering the exceptional quality (which is, I believe, the reason people go to a gelato shop) and the humility of a master gelato maker who, despite having the potential to aspire to greater fame, has humbly chosen to remain faithful to the spirit of his location, I can only round up and give it full marks. P.S.: If they could improve the service a little, I'm convinced the other reviews would also improve significantly.
