Nice, simple bar. We had a cafe Americano and brioche with granita for breakfast and were very satisfied. The granita was especially delicious.

The best granita I've ever had. It looks like any other bar, yet it serves the furthest thing from the typical tourist traps. The only flaw (maybe it was a coincidence) is that when we showed up at the counter, the clerk ignored us until she'd finished chatting with her colleague. It wasn't a real problem, just a little annoying, but for a granita like this, I'm even waiting for my grandchildren's first communion. See you soon!

We'd been recommended this place for its granitas, but honestly, I expected better. The brioches weren't bad, but I've had better there too. There aren't many alternatives at Fontane Bianche, but if you want something refreshing, it's fine.

Bar El Cubano in Fontane Bianche isn't just a bar, but a true historical institution. Anyone who grew up in the area or spent summers here knows it's a must-visit, especially for one specialty that sets it apart from all the others: its granita.

Good place to take traditional breakfast from this amazing island, not too many options nearby but this one definitely is a good option.

The granitas, especially the fruit ones, are the best I've ever had. When paired with the brioche "col tuppo," they make an unbeatable combination!

The granita is good, but the location needs improvement.

What a shame!
Something has changed (certainly not the place, which is still a bit sterile and bare) about the gelato.
I get the feeling that they're much sweeter than a few years ago, which makes them seem more commercial.
It's a shame because, in my opinion, it was one of the best gelato shops in Syracuse.
If you’re in Siracusa and haven’t had granita from El Cubano, you haven’t really had granita.
This spot has become our go-to, both for lazy Sicilian breakfasts and late-night dessert cravings. They serve some of the best granite in all of Sicily—fresh, flavorful, and with that perfect texture that melts on your tongue without ever feeling watery. It’s the kind of place where one visit turns into a daily habit.
I highly recommend the mandorla (almond)—rich, creamy, and not too sweet—or if you’re feeling adventurous, try the gelsomino (jasmine), which is floral, fragrant, and surprisingly addictive. The brioche is soft, slightly warm, and the perfect partner to scoop up those icy clouds of flavor.
The staff is always welcoming and cheerful, even during peak times. Whether it’s morning, midday, or late in the evening, El Cubano is almost always open, which only makes it more dangerous (in the best way).
There’s a casual outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your granita in true local style, but it’s also great for takeaway if you’re heading to the beach or strolling through Ortigia.

A must-visit on every trip back from the beach...the granitas and brioches are fantastic. All flavors. Super artisanal. Family-run, don't change!
