Many years ago, on my first visit to Venice, I asked the hotel concierge where he goes for coffee, not where he sends the tourists. He told me to go around the corner to Bar Ducale, adding that it’s also where the gondoliers go for their coffee. And I’ve been coming here ever since, particularly for the soft, white crustless tramezzini sandwiches.

The best Aperol in Italy in the most unexpected place. That, accompanied by exceptional service, makes it a bar that you need to stop by for a drink before continuing with your tour.

Local jaunt for the gondoliers. Have a cappuccino and a croissant at the bar to feel like a local. The ham panini is great, ask for the red mayo sauce to go with it. Super affordable too!

Very pleasant staff! I have had breakfast there several days in a row and we are always greeted with a smile. The brioches and coffee are excellent. I also recommend the crema caffé, very pleasant on hot days.

On July 31, 2024, the bar that we have been going to for many years on the occasion of our Biennale visits was surprisingly closed. No notes explaining it. Hopefully just a vacation...

Food was ok but man serving was incredibly rude, rolling his eyes at every order then shouting at us to order everything at once, as if he was going to remember 8 different items spoken in broken heavily Irish accented Italian. His attitude was shocking to be honest.
