Good morning, I stopped at this Autogrill yesterday mid-morning, along with my mother and brother, during a trip from Codroipo (province of Udine) to Luni (La Spezia) to attend the funeral of a family friend.
I should point out right away that the single star doesn't refer to the service we received at the counter (we had two cappuccinos and a coffee; the service was impeccable and fast despite the large crowd).
After breakfast, we wandered among the various shelves where, like any self-respecting Autogrill, you can purchase a few gifts for those waiting for us at home. In the refreshment area (first floor), there are only a few shelves, while the market area, located on the ground floor, multiplies. My mother immediately noticed (right near the refreshment counter) some hairbrushes engraved with women's names, and decided to buy one with my daughter's name (Ludovica). Eager to be the one to give the little girl a gift, she hands me €10 (the cost of the hairbrush is €9.90) to pay at the register (which I later discover is on the ground floor). Meanwhile, she and my brother head to the restroom. I wait there, making a work call and hovering around the counter with the phone in my right hand and the hairbrush and bill in my left. I end the call, and shortly afterward, my mother and brother come back up from the restroom (also on the ground floor, but in a separate area from the market). I hand the hairbrush and bill to my brother, knowing I don't think it's appropriate to go to the restroom with an item still to be paid for. They continue their search for souvenirs, I head to the restroom, then, once I've done my business, I go back up to the refreshment area and back down the other side toward the market. Here I find my mother and brother, separated from me by the shelves of various merchandise (the shelves are no more than 150 cm high, so we can easily see and talk to each other). I ask my mother if she's found anything else she likes, and while she's talking about a Juventus cap for my son, a young man I clearly identify as an employee approaches me. With a fairly polite manner, but without being overly polite or respectful, he tells me that I've been seen (presumably on camera) going to the restroom with a hairbrush in my hand. So very calmly, and even smiling, I call my mother (strictly in Friulian) and ask her if she can hand me the hairbrush. The cashier had already placed it in a paper bag, having already paid for it, along with the receipt (I point out that my mother, despite not having finished her round of gifts, had already paid for the merchandise). The young man seemed to make a face as if to say, "What did my colleague see?" But he certainly didn't apologize. At this point, obviously, my initial smile turned into a firm demand to immediately see my visionary colleague, who, through the cameras, saw me go down to the bathroom with a pink hairbrush studded with glitter and with the word "Ludovica" written on it (and at this point, also with 10 euros). But the guy entrenched himself behind "this isn't possible" and "you know, 50 thefts happen every day, this time we were wrong."
In conclusion: we can all make mistakes, but once you've made a mistake (in this case, a huge one), you have to apologize, and do so with a certain amount of politeness. There are cameras; how can you see what isn't there?
I reiterate my appreciation for the facility and the service at the counter. I have no problem with the possibility of being mistaken, but it's intolerable that, following the mistake, the attentive "inspector" showed no polite behavior (a little would have been enough, a few words of apology, a smile, and a handshake; there was no need to kneel down). A generously sized rest stop on the Autostrada del Sole, accessible from both sides via a covered walkway. Ample parking is available, suitable for campervans. During our visit, the bar was very busy. The coffee was good, as usual. There were no standing tables, but a long table along the wall. The exit is through the shop, which offers some good deals.

A good roadside rest stop, clean restrooms, and a wide variety of food and drinks. The prices are standard for a roadside gourmet establishment. It has a mini-market, restaurant, and snack bar, spread over 3 floors.

A great old Italian vintage rest stop with a restaurant, shop, and bar 🫶 The northbound side isn't very big with truck and car parking, but it has a huge parking lot where, as a truck driver, you feel like you have to walk 10 km in the morning just to get a coffee! But it's a great area, keep up the good work! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
