Apuleius In Roma

Always perfect. We visit this charming place from time to time for over 10 years. And it is always perfect: the quality, the presentation, the tradition, the creativity, the atmosphere, the service, the local wine selection. Rome is not Rome for us without Apuleius.

This is a special restaurant that I was so delighted to have found. It’s in a quiet part of the Aventine Hill and I was nearby to take a walk in the Giardino degli Aranci. When I arrived, towards the end of lunch service the restaurant was full, I believe with a large family gathering but the staff politely explained that I could take a seat in a slightly quieter and more private part of the dining room, which was ideal for me as a solo diner. The menu and local wine were explained to me in patient detail. The service was faultless and the food was delicious. I had the zucchini flowers, the Gnocchi alla Romana, and the ‘almost’ tiramisu. Every bite was unique and memorable and this was one of my favourite meals, ever. I chose a local sparkling, red and then dessert wine to have with each course and these were also incredibly good. Grazie team for such a fond memory. I will be back!

It's relatively lightly seasoned and very tasty.

Apuleius strikes such a delicate balance in my opinion between being elegant yet approachable, a place for a special occasion or also for a nice family lunch or dinner (two families were there with children while I dined), attentive service but not overbearing or intrusive. You're far away from the tourist crowds here on the Aventine Hill, but the walk or commute is worth the setting and the fantastic Roman food with local wine and ingredients. This was my fifth time to Rome, and the best meal I've had in the Eternal City over all five visits. The starter with poached egg, zucchini, and AMPLE truffle slices was delightful; my main (risotto with tuna/onion/bottarga sauce) was hearty and flavourful, special without seeming overly wrought. The deconstructed tiramisù was tasty and a delight to think about while eating. Many thanks to the staff for a fantastic end to my pilgrimage during the Jubilee year with such a great meal. Deo gratias indeed!

Excellent cuisine. Different from the usual fare in Rome.

This was our best restaurant visit of the whole trip. We had really good Italian food with locally produced wines. The staff were great and I am so glad we chose to go here on our last night instead of ending up in another tourist trap. I recommend everyone to visit this restaurant. We were staying at a hotel nearby which was perfect.

Absolute hidden gem in Rome! Food was fantastic, simple but yet an explosion of flavours. The wine they paired with my food was also excellent. Attentive waitress and sommelier. All of that at very decent prices!

A fantastic place! I just left the restaurant and it was simply incredible. The waitress was amazing, neither too intrusive nor too distant. And if you have the chance to try their lavender crème brûlée with a shot of Grand Marnier, you won't be disappointed! I recommend it 200%! And thank you again to this extremely professional waitress!
