Review of Ristorante Al Vecchio Convento, Viale Luigi Borri, 348, 21100 Varese, VA, Italy
Elegant and...Perfect!
The restaurant is located on a busy road, off the main road leading to Varese, and the average price is around €35.
The parking lot is private and quite large, so finding a spot is easy.
The restaurant has a main dining room, which has been maintained in a meticulously rustic style, a very pleasant and spacious outdoor area, and another very elegant dining room.
It has a very elegant and refined character, with attention to every detail, including several objects that enrich the overall effect, such as an old cash register and
a grand piano, as well as tasteful rustic details.
The clientele, being a restaurant of this type, is fairly homogeneous, favored primarily by families, couples, or those seeking excellent cuisine at a fair price, as well as tranquility in an elegant setting.
The welcome is very warm, the manager is very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, especially about wine, and professional, and immediately tries to make guests feel at ease.
The staff is very helpful, professional, elegant, and friendly, and above all, very attentive to needs.
What I liked most about this place is the presence of a person with a disability who serves tables, a perfectly integrated part of the restaurant, which makes this place unique. It's the black pearl that makes you understand
how someone like this can have an edge over others, giving you complete confidence.
The menu is printed, in grand restaurant style, well-structured among the restaurant's dishes, with a decent variety of dishes offered, not overly elaborate but well-structured.
The prices for individual dishes are, in my opinion, below average compared to similar establishments.
The cuisine is Tuscan-inspired, refined, and elegant. The ingredients are of excellent quality, the dishes are beautifully served, expertly plated, and without skimping on quantity.
The presentation is neat, artistic, pleasing, and meticulous. The temperature of the dishes and the ingredients is respected, especially by warming them, while the quality of the cuisine is truly remarkable.
What I appreciated most was the ambiance and the atmosphere it created.
We sampled several recommended dishes, immediately noticing the clean presentation and the artistic sophistication, combined with high-level preparation techniques, ranging from CBT to direct cooking, from appetizers to dessert.
It was a succession of well-balanced dishes, with careful attention to pairings, never risky, well-served, and with delicate flavors.
The restaurant has an excellent wine cellar, among which the manager, an extremely knowledgeable person, can recommend a wide range of wines.
If I really wanted to offer constructive criticism, which is more of a suggestion, I'd focus on the sophistication of the dishes, offering at least one characteristic and unique dish from this restaurant, perhaps changing with the season,
which conveys the quality and sophistication of this cuisine.
The service is warm, attentive, and courteous, while the wait times are a bit longer than average, due to the fact that this restaurant subverts the idea of time—in short...there's no rush!
The restaurant is generally very clean, while the atmosphere is very refined, engaging, and seductive, transporting customers into a whirlwind of intense emotions that entice them to return.
My rating is obviously 5/5 because it has the perfect combination of cuisine, atmosphere, and service, especially due to the manager's courage in employing people with disabilities,
making the atmosphere even more welcoming.
Obviously, in my humble opinion, this is a place not to be missed.
Please remember that every review is intended to improve, not merely criticize.
