Al Tormento In Trieste

My son had been pestering me for a week. Then I gave in: "Let's go to Tormento, son." From the name, I was about to brace myself for the arrival of instant Maalox right after the first bite, but... the packet of Maalox remained untouched. The sandwiches are tasty, large, well-filled, and above all, greasy enough that you're forced to juggle the napkin to save your jeans from painful stains for your wallet. The skill of some of the patrons in avoiding tormenting drips is commendable. The people at the tables are calm, and in this day and age, that's not to be taken lightly. The waiter doesn't even think about technology. He's equipped with a notepad and pen, and with these alone, he takes your order without hesitation. The environment is simple and without the glassware of the Cracco Restaurant it makes it even more pleasant. However, I believe that in the kitchen there is a lady who knows how to do her job well and who loves it and I imagine her with a smile just like Sora Lella's.

Excellent sandwiches, above average, very kind staff, a slightly spartan atmosphere but justified by the quality.

A somewhat hidden pub, recommended by locals, which turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is welcoming and very pleasant. The food is truly excellent: the sandwiches are large, well-filled, and tasty, but the real specialty is the palacinke, enormous and delicious, absolutely worth trying. The only downside is the wait, which was quite long even though the place wasn't crowded. Despite this, the experience was positive and I will definitely be back!

Big sandwich but nothing exceptional

An oasis of tranquility in a remote area...varied menu choice with gluten-free option...definitely worth considering!

It's our favorite place because it's also close to our house, which is a blessing both because we walk there and because everything is always REALLY good! The atmosphere is very informal and takes us back in time, like being in our grandfather's tavern! In the summer, they also set up an outdoor area with umbrellas and plastic tables (I recommend bringing mosquito repellent if you want to dine outside). The place is run by a very '80s-style team of very kind and helpful people. Sometimes there may be even fewer, but they deserve your patience because they are truly adorable: the sandwiches and dishes are excellent, the fries are out of this world, and the double Nutella crepes are a MUST. We'll be moving to another city soon, but when we return to Trieste, it will DEFINITELY be a must-visit!
