Al Dente Spaghetteria In Salerno

KING OF SPAGHETTI ! What fun to be back in beautiful Salerno ! My wife and I arrived here for a 6 day vacation on Thurs, March 27th after a long private limo drive from Florence. Martin our good friend and limo / tour driver dropped us off a short distance from our 4th floor Airbnb on Corso Vittorio Emanuele....the ( mostly ) pedestrian mall which runs the length of downtown Salerno. We intended to revisit most of the restaurants, cafes and gelato shops we loved during our 4 day visit here 18 months ago...and find some new ones ! In fact during dinner that first night at a very good pizzeria one of the staff suggested Al Dente to us...said it was very good. On Saturday we set off along the pedestrian mall and arrived here around 1.30pm to grab some lunch. THE PLACE WAS PACKED OUT ! As soon as we entered the eatery I ran into Mauro the very friendly manager who seated us at a table immediately...the only one in sight. GREAT VIBE ! Everywhere I looked I could see contented diners enjoying their spaghetti dishes. BEER ! Mauro was the right guy to talk to and brought me an ice cold Mastri Birra Umbri IPA with a tall stem glass straight off the bat. VERY SATISFYING ! This was an American style IPA - 6.5% abv and a pleasure to drink . FOOD ! There was an enormous selection on the menu. My wife ordered BACON AND EGG ( Fresh organic eggs, pecorino romano DOP, Norcia bacon, black pepper ) while I decided on TOMATO AND BACON ( Norcia bacon, San Marzano DOP tomato, Pecorino Romano DOP and black pepper ). POPULAR PLACE ! I noticed that every time a table was vacated it was taken straight away. FAST SERVICE ! Our beautiful looking dishes arrived faster than the bullet train. SPAGHETTI HEAVEN ! Our perfectly made meals tasted extraordinary...these guys have got it down to a fine art. We paid the bill and thanked Mauro the cool manager, Veronica & Giuseppe the kind servers....got selfies of course ! Without a doubt we would have come back again but we had a very full schedule ahead of us. ONE OF OUR BEST DINING EXPERIENCES IN ITALY !

Favorite place! The best pasta!

The restaurant is welcoming with its modern shapes. The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff is very kind with you. I appreciated the possibility to see the kitchen, because there aren't walls or any kind of separation. The dishes are great and portions are correct for the price. The menu is not so full of dishes, but everyone of it needs to be tried once upon a time. I strongly recommend this restaurant, mostly if you want to spend an enjoyable evening with your friends or colleges.

Review for beginning of April 2026, beginning of dinner time. Came in hungry, establishment was full, cooks were in overdrive mode. Spaghetti used are Mancini brand, top quality, obviously cooked to perfection. (this remark coming from a person who does not enjoy eating pasta in the shape of spaghetti). You can see the cooks preparing the meals, all meticulously measured and time controlled. Good Pasta allo scarpariello with plenty of parmeggiano; Also tomato spaghetti. Did enjoy the dessert OMAGGIO A PANTALEONE “LA SCAZZETTA”. No time to capture a photo of it. To improve: 1.Menu was only in Italian, for other languages a translated menu was no longer working and you had to translate automatically the page. The resulted English translation was way off and could lead off the client. 2.Suggest adding either photos and list clearly if contain meat/fish/cheese, as most tourist were non Italian and do not get the differences between some types of cheese/meat/clams. Payment was fast, accepted by card also contactless or tap to pay. Service on the fast side. Coperto was 2€/persons and a bottle of water either flat or sparkling was included.

What they brought was nit my choice, nothing special. There are far better ones. Fair prices

Ordered 2 bruschettas and 2 pasta, I cannot say the bruschettas were amazing, they were okay but the bread was very thin. My friend got his order pretty fast, his pasta was so good and amazing, really great quality, and I’ve got the wrong order, the waiter just put the wrong pasta next to me and left immediately, I was calling for her to come back to tell her it’s not my order. The waiter just took the wrong pasta and left without saying anything, went back to the kitchen and they gave us pretty uncomfortable look. Some time later they brought me my order but the pasta was uncooked (compared to the other pasta) and not like al dente, the sauce was a bit too salty, but overall it was fine. Probably the order mistake was due to the language barrier and I don’t blame the waiter for that, in the end of the day I’m the tourist here, and as I wrote previously the first pasta was amazing and we’ve never eaten a better pasta Amatriciana before, but bruschettas are big overrated

We enjoyed our meals. The baked cod, octopus ragout bruschetta, and all the pastas were delicious! You have to try the Genovese and the Don Pietro pastas. We would go back to this restaurant again! The atmosphere and service were nice too.

The restaurant is both cozy and elegant, but not too expensive. We tried carbonara and ragú di polpo. These were great choices. The staff is very friendly, speaks English. I recommend it if you visit Salerno.
