FINALLY! I hate to say it, but in Taranto the food is banal, and very often, it's bad!
Forget the banal dishes; here in the kitchen, we experiment, but without overdoing it!
The fish is finally cooked properly! The smell of burnt garlic doesn't waft from the kitchen, as so often happens.
The fish is fresh, and there's plenty of variety.
The atmosphere is refined, in line with the €3 cover charge. Everything is clean, not just what's on the table! The walls are perfect! Maybe it's thanks to Alessandro Borghese's visit: that may be true, but the cuisine is the same, Borghese or not. And the cleanliness, too!
The 6-course appetizer is truly fantastic, verging on gourmet, but with generous portions. Hanging grilled fish: the idea of "hanging" the skewer might not be the most convenient thing in the world, but... in the end, the dish was high quality, and you can only praise it.
The service was just right: you'll be able to leave at a decent time. What I truly HATE is our "Mediterranean" way of letting ourselves go at the table. I can't stand it anymore! At TAGii, if you want, you can have a quick lunch. I think the four of us with two kids left after an hour and a half. Absolutely perfect, in my opinion!
Final note: I spoke to the owner at the end of lunch. The first thing he said was, and I quote more or less verbatim: "I put the quality of the fish first (he has two very well-known fishmongers in the area), but everything else is down to the guys (the staff, obviously)"! This statement made me really happy: it was a beautiful phrase in a land where we "consume" our employees!
A note on prices: we spent a little more than a "gastro-fizzy" pizza!!! But we ate fish and drank wine. I forgot: a nice selection of wines at all prices.
My next dinner will be there! See you soon!
