In the historic center of San Vito Lo Capo, a charming town in the province of Trapani, stands this ancient Catholic church. Apart from the ancient sedimentations of the Roman era, historical sources speak of this place of worship since the Norman era. It is worth a visit between one swim and another in these warm and clear waters of San Vito Lo Capo.

For the traveler who walks through the lively streets of San Vito li Capo on a sunny May day, this stone building that appears before him in the square takes on the characteristics of a military fortress. The external structure, rectangular, is massive in its apparent architectural inelegance, and is divided into two horizontal orders, separated by a string course section with an entrance without a portal in the lower part and an oculus which acts as a rose window and a niche at the inside which there is the statue of San Vito. The interior well represents the religious sentiment of the local community, although anomalous from an architectural point of view. The large chapel, which stands out in its visual immediacy as soon as you cross the threshold of the sanctuary-fortress, dominates the only transversal nave present in the interior. The riot of stucco statues, later renovated in marble, which adorn the orders into which the large chapel is divided, restore to the traveler that feeling of beauty and wonder that arises from the admiration of works of art. There is also time for a quick visit to the suggestive crypt located in the sanctuary's hypogeum. The flooring of the large chapel and the crypt is of great artistic value.

The Sanctuary of San Vito is located in the center of the town in a pedestrian area. The Church is very ancient and dates back to the early years of Christianity. From the outside it looks more like a fortress (a fortification dating back to the 15th century) than a church. Inside there is an underground baptistery dating back to the 5th-6th century.
