The Sanctuary is the nucleus that generated the town of San Vito Lo Capo. Originally there was a fourteenth-century chapel dedicated to San Vito. Over time its fame grew thanks to the miracles attributed to the saint and in the fifteenth century it was transformed into a fortress-accommodation to welcome faithful and pilgrims sheltered from pirate incursions. The external structure is suggestive, as is the interior and the hypogeum which house a small treasure of works of art. Worth seeing.

Very particular sanctuary, dedicated to San Vito, which over the centuries has taken on the characteristic shape of a fortress. It stands mighty and majestic in the historic center of San Vito Lo Capo. Inside, the baroque altar complex stands out, full of niches including the one with the statue of the Saint. Below, you descend towards the small crypt which houses, in a shrine, the bust of San Vito with the relics. The mosaic floor with the symbols of Christianity is particular. The sanctuary church also houses a museum with sacred objects and religious vestments. After visiting the museum you can access the terrace from which you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the town and the seafront dotted with exotic palm trees. The sanctuary represents a special mystical experience for visitors who access it, offering moments of peace from the chaos of the crowded and noisy streets especially during festive periods.
