19/08/2025: What a shame!! We dined at this restaurant based on our hotelier's recommendation and the reviews, but we were sorely disappointed. The appetizers were good (the scampi tartare...the shrimp tartare was sold out)...but the first courses were just not up to par, sorry. The tagliolini with lobster was poorly balanced and had half a claw added to it, as was the shrimp spaghetti with Bronte pistachios, which was too flavorful (but was enhanced by a raw shrimp). Next up was spaghetti alla giannino, filled with cherry tomatoes and seafood...the sauce masked the flavor and presence of the clams (though their shells were still intact). For main courses, grilled octopus and calamari, nothing special (except for the price), which we thought were decent, especially the plating, but overcooked and lacking in flavor. The wine list starts at €40...we chose a mid-priced white wine, which paired excellently with fish, but the 150% markup on the average price was excessive. Finally, the service: we happened to be there on an evening where the restaurant's friends (or relatives) were also guests...they were always served before the other tables and with attention that was not shown to other customers (we had to ask for dirty plates to be cleared away, for wet wipes to be brought, for courses to be served, and for the essential cutlery for opening shellfish). It's worth noting that, in the end, the owner had to ask the "guests" to lower their voices. There are certainly no alternatives offering fresh fish in the center of Mantua, but it's not worth the €70 per person (minimum) required for an average meal (appetizer and first course or first course and second course with water and wine). For that price, it's better to look elsewhere... especially considering the "hidden" location. Perhaps it was an unlucky evening, but even if we're tourists... 'Acco nosciuno è fosso' (No one here is a fool). We suggest publishing updated menus (the ones published aren't) to better understand the type of cuisine offered... it would help to encourage a proper quality/price assessment.
