I discovered this restaurant thanks to the Michelin Guide, which once again proved to be a reliable reference. There were two of us and we chose the tasting menu.
The quality of the food was excellent: high-quality ingredients showcased without excess or unnecessary pretension.
I particularly recommend trying the swordfish nuggets and the CBT sweetbreads glazed with a brown sauce.
The atmosphere is welcoming and refined, but never stuffy or overly formal, making the experience relaxing and enjoyable. The staff was very courteous and attentive.
Also noteworthy is the restaurant's convenient location, a feature that is not a given but certainly appreciated.

“A Culinary Home Run in Reggio Calabria”

La Ristobottega is an absolute gem in Reggio Calabria. This small but very cozy place immediately makes you feel at home, setting the stage for a truly great meal that focuses on the freshest ingredients from the sea.
Unforgettable Fish Dishes:
The menu boasts a phenomenal choice of fish-based dishes, showcasing the kitchen's artistry and the quality of local seafood. I thoroughly enjoyed the grouper tartare, which was fresh and perfectly seasoned. However, the top choice of the evening was undoubtedly the sea carbonara: it was simply sublime.
A brilliant, innovative take on a classic that I highly recommend.
Not done yet, and still having an appetite, I finished with the swordfish carpaccio, which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
Service and Personal Touch:
The staff was efficient and kind, ensuring smooth and attentive service throughout the meal. The experience was elevated by a wonderful, unexpected touch: we had a glass together with the chef, a truly appreciated moment that highlights the restaurant's warm, welcoming spirit.
A Suggestion for the Wine List:
My only suggestion would be to extend/enlarge the wine list to provide some additional choices, especially local red producers. While the current selection is good, a few more regional red options would beautifully complement their diverse and flavourful menu.
Final take-away:
Normally, I reserve 5 stars only for officially starred restaurants, but this one deserves them all.
La Ristobottega delivers stunning, creative food, a charming atmosphere, and a personal touch that makes it an essential dining experience in Reggio Calabria.

The kitchen is absolutely fantastic - gourmet food at a high level - but the waiter is not trained and it is very sad that the lights are turned off when the crowd leaves, so you end up sitting in the dark - so have coffee somewhere else

The food was absolutely beautiful - one of the best we had in the region at a very reasonable price.
Sadly, the service and the atmosphere were not great. The waiters were super uptight - they made us feel like we don’t belong in a weird, snobbish way. Our lead waiter was often very condescending, almost offended on behalf of the restaurant, when we asked questions about the food.
The restaurant was mostly empty and super quiet. We were there to have fun, eat good food and drink wine, but it felt like a funeral inside.

A very welcoming and elegant venue. The wait staff is extremely knowledgeable and courteous. Superlative cuisine, experimentation with great technical knowledge and skill. A rare fish-aging fridge (which you can see in the photos) is a must. Excellent ingredients. A long and pleasant conversation with the chef. In short... the only flaw is that it's too far from Rome; otherwise, we'd return every week.
