Il Normanno In Mileto

Excellent experience, delicious food, beyond our expectations.

01/11/2025 All Saints' Day lunch at one of the most historic restaurants in the Calabrian town of Mileto, once the capital of the Great Norman County in the second half of the year 1000. The name "Il Normanno" therefore denotes the historical reference of Gianni, the restaurant's owner. The chef's masterfully prepared dishes, however, are the work of the best Mileto and Calabrian traditions, with culinary precision and attention to local products, such as Mileto-style tripe and tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms, the restaurant's classics. Bravo!

Great atmosphere, very friendly, and the food is all homemade and incredibly delicious. Highly recommended!

Recommended by a local friend, we went to this place, and I must say we left completely satisfied. A historic place in the area, small and welcoming, that has received numerous awards for its tradition. Homemade fileja served with various toppings, all excellent... We tried the zucchini flowers, sausage, and smoked provola, and the beans and mussels... wonderful... Again, on the recommendation of our dear friend, we had the grilled chicken with potatoes... indescribable deliciousness... pure delight... We didn't order an appetizer because given the portions, we wouldn't have been able to taste the chicken, but from what I saw in the dining room, even the full appetizer would have been fully worth it. Next time... Friendly staff, fast service, and reasonable prices... Thanks to Mr. Gianni.

Having dined in restaurants all over the world, including extensively throughout Europe and every region of Italy, I can say without hesitation that this is the best combination of value, taste, and hospitality I have ever experienced. From the moment my brother and I arrived, the warmth and friendliness of the staff stood out—they went out of their way to communicate with my brother and me in Spanish, making us feel completely welcome. We started with two pasta dishes that were fantastic, perfectly followed by a meat sampler and a pizza that completed the meal beautifully. This small, unassuming trattoria is worth a visit. I highly recommend the pasta dishes and the mixed antipasto. The service is very attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed our visit. The restaurant also has a bar.

The Filedea with goat sauce was delicious! The best stop we made on the road between Puglia and Sicily.

We ate and stayed for five days at Il Normanno. We enjoyed both the restaurant and the house. Gianni's hospitality and kindness are the strengths of these establishments, and Mileto is a beautiful, lively village.

Amid the superficiality and squalor of so many makeshift venues, the Normanno has remained an undisputed monument of quality and tradition for decades. Always a pleasure.
