Dinners at the Centrale in Esino Lario are always a pleasure. A first-rate welcome and availability and good typical cuisine that makes taste and abundance its best feature. A post-meal nap is a must before getting back behind the wheel!!!!!

I stayed at Hotel Centrale last summer with my husband, his parents, and my mother last summer during our trip to Italy, and our stay at Hotel Centrale was a beautiful highlight of our trip. We were all impressed by the kindness of the staff, the excellent food, and the beauty of the hotel and its surroundings. I made our reservation by contacting the owner on WhatsApp. He was kind and flexible: when I asked what time we could check in, he said “any time is okay.” This seemed almost too easy compared to a typical hotel experience, but sure enough, we were greeted and shown to our rooms with no trouble as soon as we arrived. The staff was very kind and helpful, with a casual family atmosphere. Partway through our stay, our parents went down to stay by the lake for a couple nights, but the owner generously allowed my husband and me to stay put in our triple room at no additional cost so we didn't have to move. Our rooms were simple but clean and comfortable, and they put us on the highest floor, where we had a breathtaking view of the town and the mountains. The whole hotel has a charming alpine aesthetic that added to the experience of being in such a beautiful mountain village. My husband and I are both vegan, which can be a challenge when traveling, especially outside of big cities. But we were so impressed by how the staff at Hotel Centrale accommodated our dietary needs. We had let the owner know in advance on WhatsApp that we are vegan, and immediately from our first breakfast there, they provided us with an assortment of delicious vegan pastries and had non-dairy milk for our cappuccinos. At lunch and dinner as well, the staff understood our needs as vegans and readily adapted their menu of local cuisine to provide us with a variety of hearty and delicious options. The hotel was quite easy to get to by bus, though anyone coming to Esino should be prepared to walk up and down the town's steep hills. There is a bus from the Varenna Esino train station. You can buy the tickets at the information booth (marked with an “i” sign) at the station. I highly recommend Hotel Centrale for anyone who wants a charming, comfortable, relaxed stay with delicious food—especially if you're vegan!
