20/08/2025: Far from being "one of the best restaurants in Italy," no. This is undoubtedly one of the best in the world. Every course is an immense delight in the history of gastronomy. I'll stop here. Great Italian cuisine, revisited, not distorted, is HERE. Do you want to be amazed? You will be. A huge thank you to the founder Gianluigi Morini who watches over us from above, and to Valentino Marcattilii, Chef, who 40 years ago created today's recipes based on the ideas of Bergese, Chef of the House of Savoy. A tribute to Natale Marcattilii, Chef, the best in the world. Go to San Domenico, you will remember him with great joy, forever.
23/07/2025: Me and my wife had lunch here. For us this was a fairly special occasion; were on vacation nearby and saw a relatively affordable "business lunch" that included the signature dish of the restaurant so we figured this would be an excellent way to try out a two-Michelin star restaurant. We've been to a one star twice before, and love good food and wine. The food ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent. The signature dish, ravioli with egg, is just incredible. The aperitif was fun and cute. The other main dish, pork, was very good and hearty. The dessert was great and varied. All ingredients used were high quality and nice. It all looked very beautiful too! The service around the food was very good too, excellent explanation of what the dishes were. My wife is pregnant and they checked any ingredients they were uncertain of with us beforehand. The wine (and sommelier) ⭐ I'm pretty new to wine, but I do know what I like and do my research for a region beforehand. I do have wset 2 as well. With that context given, on to my review. I had two wines; one with each of the main courses. Beforehand I looked through the book of all wines they have (out of interest) and there were some beautiful wines there for sure! A lot of local things, a lot international too. Because my wife is pregnant I told the waiter that a bottle was too much for me and if he could recommend something they served by the glass. He asked "red or white? Local?" I told him white and that I love local. He then came back with a glass, put it down saying "albana, local, from 2018" and walked away. No story about where exactly it's from, about the flavors, about why it pairs well with the food. No checking with me that I liked it beforehand or that the price was okay with me or anything like that. Before I had a chance to ask any more questions he was gone. For the second course it was worse, a server asked if I wanted a fitting wine, I said yes, the sommelier dropped by a glass of red saying "Tuscany, docg, sagniovese, 2023" and walked off. Now, on the final bill only one wine was listed for €45. I don't know if they forgot the second or it was a price for the total (wife paid, saw the bill later). To me, given that plenty of bottles were below €100 and a lot of local wines are not very expensive, that was quite excessive. Now, I should've checked and they should've asked. You know what they say, "assume makes an... out of u and me". At the very least I would've liked some information about what I was drinking, what made it special. I've never been to a place with a sommelier/server that wasn't excited to talk about the wine they were serving. The first wine was great, the second was generic and dull.

30/08/2025: Attention, dinner review: this is no longer the old management of the starred restaurant. This is very nice news. Here on Google, it's still listed as a restaurant, but they've reopened as an osteria. This osteria, besides having a good social project (try going to find out), has truly brought back the meaning of osteria to me. Why? First: the atmosphere is always beautiful and elegant, with outdoor space as well. The kitchen is well-kept and clean (I think it's the same one used by the previous chef). In the dining room, there are traditional wooden tables and comfortable chairs, a warm atmosphere, and they even have a lovely fireplace for the winter. Second: You can converse freely and understand the staff's explanations because they've kept ample space between the tables (I hope they don't change their minds like some restaurateurs do). The menu isn't extensive, with just a few dishes, but with the distinctive ethnic cuisine. The fish option isn't always available; it's best to ask in advance. Reservations are appreciated, but weren't necessary as there were several free tables. Let's get to the service, which is osteria-style, with a "parananza" (a typical Italian dish) and staff wearing t-shirts like true innkeepers. The staff lacks experience and dining room knowledge, but they demonstrate enthusiasm and pleasure in serving. The wine list offers a few options, but the osteria wine is also good. The ethnic menu offered is worth a try; it's plentiful and will fill you up. The guinea fowl dish is beautifully presented (pictured). The fried food could be improved upon in terms of cooking...very dark. The price is fair and reasonable for the area. Good work, guys, I'll be back. Free parking in the area, 150 meters away.

02/09/2025: All in all, a fantastic experience, perhaps a bit fussy at first because you have to wait on the street for the doors to open. But then it's a true treat for the eyes and the palate. If you're familiar with this kind of restaurant or want to experience it, you should expect a lead time of about six months.
18/06/2025: La mia sufficienza per l’esperienza è semplicemente legata a degli imprevisti nel servizio. Azzardata la scelta degli abbinamenti per la degustazione Miseria e nobiltà. Inaccettabile la reazione di uno dei sommelier al problema sollevato riguardo lo stato di conservazione di uno dei vini. Annotazione fatta da un sommelier altrettanto qualificato seduto al mio tavolo. Il ragazzo ha sostituito il vino ma con supponenza ha manifestato il suo disappunto senza assaggiare il vino in questione e dicendo palesemente che non era d’accordo. Mi limito a dare un piccolo consiglio a chi segue la sala: il servizio di un ristorante di così alto livello dovrebbe essere supervisionato da qualcuno con più esperienza. Ammirevole la presenza di tanti giovani ma la gestione di questi inconvenienti non può essere affidata ad un personale così giovane semplicemente perché “acerbo” nel gestire questi inconvenienti. Piccolo consiglio all’architetto che ha curato gli interni: togliamo le tende oscuranti che dopo quasi 5 ore di pranzo con la luce artificiale mandano in tilt il cervello????? Lo chef resta intoccabile.

20/08/2025: I had a wonderful experience at Cortex Bistrot. It's been a long time since I've eaten so well: simple ingredients transformed into extraordinary dishes thanks to the chef's mastery. Passion and love for the ingredients shine through in every course. The staff also deserves special praise: attentive, professional, kind, yet warm and approachable, making you feel truly at ease. A place I wholeheartedly recommend and will definitely return to.

01/09/2025: We only ate at the restaurant, but the service and food were simply amazing. The staff were incredibly friendly, even though they didn't speak English, but it was easy to communicate. The food was delicious, home-cooked, and clearly prepared with passion. The pana cotta was the best I've ever had. They also serve delicious liqueurs with the meal.

01/09/2025: A modern, elegant location, not gaudy, with a relaxing atmosphere. The dishes were excellent, both in presentation and, above all, in taste. The wine cellar was fantastic. We followed the sommelier's advice (the owner, who is very professional and knowledgeable), and, as with the dishes, they were top-notch. A very, very pleasant experience.

02/09/2025: If you are ever travelling through Modena you must stop & try the sweet treats in this pastry shop. Simply delicious & very fresh. We loved them so much we ordered two of our favourites. Highly recommend the ricotta cheese cake with berries 🍰 . The chocolate tart was also amazing.

The staff are truly welcoming and convey the passion of those who truly believe in what they do. Highly recommended for anyone looking to treat themselves to a sweet treat in Modena.
