Delicious dishes, succulent wines, and quality breads.
The service was certainly courteous, but with one major drawback: they didn't indicate certain unavailable options (ingredients out of stock or out of season) and only informed us when we wanted to order them, resulting in unpleasant surprises (twice, in fact: first courses AND desserts!) and unnecessary back-and-forths. So we did without. Yet this is the basics of service, respected even in restaurants that claim to be less "refined." It's all the more regrettable given the €4 service charge per person.
As for the pace, everyone has their own pace, but for us, it was more of a lack of attention, especially towards the end of the meal. We dared to pay at the counter while walking through the barely half-filled room, with three servers chatting among themselves, after a 10-minute wait. Maybe we got a bad time slot, who knows...

I always go to Vino da Gigio when I'm in Venice for dinner.
For me, it's a guarantee for sophisticated dishes based on classic Venetian cuisine, and the wine list leaves nothing to be desired.

Returning here after more than 30 years, we were delighted that Vini da Gigio is still run by the same family and the food is still wonderful. Everything is done well: sardines in saor, tagliatelle with truffles, the fritti Misti is a triumph - not showy just sparkling fresh and fabulous. Order sole al brachio and they take it off the bone for you in the traditional way. Lovely bread, fairly priced wine and above all the great atmosphere of a well run restaurant that continues to care about food, customers and Venice. One of the best!

My husband and I love this restaurant. After regularly visiting Venice for many years, and having a number of favourite restaurants, we found Vini da Gigio a year or so ago, after some careful research to add somewhere new to our regular list - we’ve always loved Cannaregio sestriere, though more recently we’ve been getting to know San Polo. Vini da Gigio is splendid; the food is wonderful (one of the few places that can tempt me to 3 courses - and my husband to the full 4!) - I literally still think about a beautiful stuffed gnocchi I had last year! The wine list is magnificent - we really love wine and being able to enjoy wines that may not be available to us in the UK. We’ve always had excellent service and, in particular, enjoyed really interesting conversations with the owner’s son and the opportunity to learn more about the culture and cuisine of Venice - which is, for us, the most important aspect of the privilege of travel. This has become a special place for my husband and I. We are looking forward to savouring another leisurely lunch when we are next in Venice. Highly recommended.

We had an unforgettable dinner at Vini da Gigio in Cannaregio. The octopus with pumpkin was absolutely delicious, the tagliolini with spider crab was a true revelation, and the linguine Malamocchina style had a perfectly balanced, slightly spicy kiclllpWhat really impressed us was how this meal felt like an escape from the overly touristic side of Venice — here we enjoyed genuine, authentic Italian food that exceeded our expectations. My wife and I were thrilled with everything we tasted. No surprise that locals recommended this restaurant to us — and we couldn’t agree more. Highly recommended!

Other dishes might be fine but we had a really rubbery pumpkin gnocchi which we were told was typical. It was clear we weren’t happy with it and felt neglected by servers after that. No one asked about how our meal was or offered dessert. Seemed like it would be a winner as a family run place.
