Sunday with the family.. Excellent starters, good first and second courses. Portions not small. The truffles that accompanied the dishes were not exceptional, but still within the norm. Adequate bill and excellent service. We will return.

Antipasto composto da affettati, crostini con salsiccia, fiori di zucca fritti, torta d'erbi e con porro e patate, pane di farina di castagne... tutto molto buono, testarli con pesto niente di speciale, secondi piatti discreti. Personale molto gentile e disponibile.

Among my friends in Pontremoli, Osteria Oca Bianca is considered the best restaurant in town. First, make sure you have a reservation, second, be prepared for a disdain for tourists. To be certain, many tourists dash into Osterias in Italy, have a bowl of pasta, a glass of wine (or sometimes just water) and leave. This is not the style of Italians and in a smaller establishment one can understand that a foreign couple with an 11-year old will probably mean an abbreviated dinner, taking the seats that typical diners might otherwise occupy, and not a very large bill at the end of it all. So I understand slightly surly service and I will say anything I found lacking in politeness in the beginning was more than compensated for by the meal, which was absolutely delicious. An antipasto plate of local delicacies included perfectly fried squash blossoms, salami, and prosciutto, and was just the thing to start this culinary journey. Half liters of both red and white house wine matched perfectly. When in Pontremoli one must eat Testaroli with pesto, which I had for my second course, my wife and daughter having pasta and a vegetable soup. For our second course, which I think the wait staff were surprised that we wanted to order my wife had a well know local dish of egg and truffle, while my daughter and I devoured what was one of the best Bistecca alla Fiorentina that we had on our trip, which was accompanied by patate fritte. Cafe Corretto fishes the meal for me, and by the time we left we were on good terms with our server. If you go, take your time and be sure to get recommendations for the most local dishes, you won't be disappointed.

Il Panigaccio

04/04/2024: Easter lunch at the Panigacci. Last Sunday, for Easter lunch with the family, we decided to eat at this place where we have been going for several years. The best Panigacci I've ever eaten in my life. Made in all ways: with mushrooms and truffles (my favorites), cheese and pepper, pesto, tomato and burrata, Bolognese (meat sauce) and carbonara. Dried with cured meats, but above all also with Nutella! Also took some steaks, but perhaps better to stick only to the panigacci which is their undisputed specialty! Good variety of wines.
29/03/2024: I loved it from the first moment... I've wanted to try it for a while, I was attracted by the idea that the restaurant was in my father-in-law's hometown, and my instincts didn't betray me... The wonderful owner... welcoming, friendly, in hand.. very fast service.. The location is the typical storey house in the alleys of the villages.. They cook the panigacci and testaroli, a typical Lunigiana dish but revisited.. in short, they don't make the panigacci only in the traditional way with pesto, parmesan oil and mushroom sauce... being from La Spezia, I was tired of eating this dish, in fact in typical restaurants I hadn't had them for years because they made me tired.....here instead they have pleasantly changed the panigacci with excellent condiments cm: panigacci with mushroom sauce truffle and porcini mushrooms (I loved it)... panigaccio with tomato and burrata, very fresh flavour..... panigacci Carbonara, this was also good... and in the end we had the testaroli with very good cured meats... In the summer they said that they also make panigacci with baby octopus...lobster and other ways.....but we'll find out about this later ❤️ Honest prices.. 4 first courses... 2 portions to test them.. water 2 glasses of wine about just over 70 euros... PROMOTED!!!!!!
