Both the carbonara and cacio e pepe were the most delicious I had during my 3 days in Rome. Some people may find it a little salty, but I felt that the flavor was more intense.
This time, I only had spaghetti and dessert, but it seems like the restaurant specializes in seafood.
The cannoli dessert was very delicious with both the dough and the ricotta cheese cream. A local group was there.

We had eaten at La Gensola several times on our last trip to Rome a decade ago and looked forward to going again. This time it was good, not great. We started with the Jewish Artichoke -- very tender but not crispy. Then the Baby Squid (Calamaretti) -- good but not as small as we expected. The Ravioi Spigola was well prepared.. The highlight of the evening was the Swordfish (Spada Limone). Very thin slices which were very tender and flavorful.

Excellent restaurant in the Trastevere area, away from the chaos of tourist restaurants. Restaurant with outdoor seating, on a quiet and very characteristic alley.
Excellent carbonara, for cooking the pasta, quantity of seasoning and products used.
The chicory is also very good.

Nice find! Friendly staff, nice place, good Roman fish dishes, I tried an excellent amberjack fillet and pasta with anchovy sauce, excellent desserts!

The staff is very kind and friendly, we sat at the tables outside and it was good, the restaurant is located in a really quiet and not very touristy place a stone's throw from the chaos of Trastevere. The food is very good and the value for money as well. Too bad the €6 for two coffees is €7 for bread and cover charge, perhaps a little too much.

Hands down, one of my favorite Osterias in Rome for fish & seafood-based pasta and dishes.
High quality, local produce cooked to perfection, finely balanced and with just the right seasoning to showcase the delicate flavors of the fishes and seafood. I always struggle to choose what to order and always end up ordering too much :)
The front of house is always fabulous, with excellent recommendations of rare wines and funny stories to share.
Super Delicious, cozy and a rare gem delivering consistently great food year after year!

Had a delightful last lunch in Rome here on New Years Day. The place was packed with what seemed like locals. Meal was delightful and the staff was very nice. The interior was charming as well. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

Most restaurants in Trastevere are tourist traps or fast joints.
La Gensola is a high quality restaurant with excellent service and outstanding food.
It is undoubtedly the best restaurant this side of Rome, and amongst the best in all the town.
Reservations essential, prices not unreasonable especially for the quality.
