The food here is really good, unbelievably fresh seafood and beautiful pasta paired with great wine. Unfortunately the service we got was pretty lousy and kinda ruined the experience for us. We were treated without any care as if they wanted us out asap. We really enjoyed the food, but service is a very important part of any dining experience so it’s not a 4 or 5 star review unfortunately.

Every visit to Venice includes at least one meal at this splendid little restaurant! First recommended by our landlady when my wife sang at the Teatro Fenice.

I vote TEN! Capable and helpful staff, they brought us everything we needed even for the baby. Fish cooked to perfection, a note of merit goes to the canestrelli, delicious. The variety of wines is also excellent. The place is welcoming, there is an air of times gone by.

I have been to Venice several times and it’s typically my least favorite place to find good food. I am glad I found this place. The presentation, wine selection and food quality made this a great restaurant. I found that the pictures online do not do this restaurant justice. The zucchini fondue had a nice presentation and great flavor. The truffle gnocchi on the specials menu had good flavor, but I found the gnocchi too thick and the texture to be off. The Branzino fish on the specials menu was very good, it came with two sides a polenta cake and mixed vegetables. The polenta cake was fine, but the mixed vegetables with the zucchini and tomatoes were out of this world. I don’t know how something so simple could taste so good. I will remember that flavor for the rest of my life.

We were in the area and were ready for lunch, what better place than the tried and trusted Vini da Gigio? All the usual attributes were in evidence. Warm welcome, excellent service, traditional menu and a truly excellent wine list. One of the special starters of the day was soft-shelled crabs, which were a must for two of our group. I always order this when available, as it is totally awesome but on this occasion I went with the grilled octopus (it seemed a bit over-the-top for three of the four to go with crab). The crab was excellent but sadly, the octopus less so. Grilled to be sure and lots of it but it would have benefitted from being removed from the grill a little sooner as it was way too charred (for my tastes). All the other fish and pasta main courses were good, as was my Venetian liver. Coffee and grappa finished the meal and service - as always - was great. Even if you exclude my “burnt” octopus, the meal didn’t reach the extremely high standards we have experienced here in the past. Saying that, we still ate very well - but we have eaten better at this historic and well established restaurant. It did seem less crowded than usual. I would still recommend Vini da Gigio if you are looking for a true Venetian eating experience but you can get more innovative and exciting food elsewhere.

Allora parto subito affermando che non è un posto economico ed alla portata di tutti soprattutto se non si è astemi. La trattoria è storica e questi si vede e si sente quanto varchi la porta d'accesso. La proprietà (erano presenti credo padre e figlio) non sprizza simpatia da tutti i pori ma non posso affermare di aver percepito scortesia da parte loro. La carta dei vini e degli spiriti è importante così come il costo per accedervi. Ai piatti indicati nel menù vengono comunicati a voce altri piatti del giorno con i rispettivi prezzi spesso più costosi. Per quello che abbiamo mangiato non posso affermare di aver trovato un rapporto qualità prezzo adeguato, specie per quanto riguarda l'antipasto. I primi buoni ma non da lasciarti un ricordo indelebile. Non posso affermare di ritornarci la prossima volta.
