Place recommended by our Italian neighbour, who visited it several years ago. I am afraid it changed too a little bit more turistic place. Food was OK, staff very up tempo, place crowded. The restaurant interior is interesting though.

We went because it had a good rating and was off the beaten track. We loved that it was full of Italians and the food was very homemade.
Now, be careful when paying. They wrote us the ticket by hand, we didn't understand anything and although we sensed that they had inflated it, it wasn't until after leaving and seeing the letter outside that they had charged us about €20 more. We feel like the typical scammed tourists. We should have demanded a printed ticket because they had the ability to do so, but we were already exhausted from the entire day. A shame to leave with that bad taste in our mouths after having eaten phenomenally.
Of course, the food was very good, the vongole recommended and the tiramisu incredible.

I don't understand what all the very positive reviews are based on. The food is okay, but not more than that. Very bright lighting doesn't contribute to a nice atmosphere. And we payed 175 euro for 4 persons. Yesterday it was 225 euro's for a dinner at Michelin star level at Bottega Tredici. So Tavernelle is way too expensive for the food they are serving.
Only tourists here, so not the traditional restaurant that some reviewers mention.
I have to say, the staff was very friendly and working really hard, but overall we found it a bit disappointing based on food quality, chef's ingenuity (none), and atmosphere. Fine if you stay around here, but not worth walking more than 5 minutes for.

Nell'ultimo giorno di permanenza a Roma, avendo frequentato altri ristoranti consigliati da amici (che però non ci avevano soddisfatto ) siamo capitati in questa struttura affidandoci al caso. Voi non ci crederete, ma il caso a volte vale piu' del consigli. Abbiamo mangiato bene e ci siamo divertiti come dimostra la foto allegata.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel so we decided to come here to eat. It was a weekday so we didn't have to wait to be seated, but I would get a reservation if it is the weekend or during the tourist season. The spaghetti alla carbonara, fettuccine bolognese, and minestrone soup were really good.
