Oh come on, I didn't know that in Rome the delightful village of Poggio Moiano has the nickname "Poggio magnamo"! And, believe me, it fits him like a glove. As I will tell you in these few lines which describe the good food enjoyed in the Vecchia Italia restaurant, which is set up under the name of Fontana Maria. But wait a moment, first, a few words about Poggio Moiano-magnamo... and to begin with we start from a sunny Thursday morning in May and there are two of us in Monte Santa Maria, the town of the Immaculate Conception and the many kittens that populate it , in the solitude of Sabina. There isn't much to do so, the idea comes out of a top hat. "How about going for a swim at the municipal swimming pool in Poggio Moiano?" All said and done, in twenty minutes we are already in the pool (6 euro entry for free swimming), in the small, fragrant pool of the great celestial basin which has the green Sabine hills as a view. Up and down, up and down until the water aerobics and the din of its modern music arrive. Here we are, urban again, visiting the little village that sits hanging from a steep cliff and is all ups and downs of streets and alleys, steps and even here of cats. I like it, it ticks, I take a lot of photos... Tired and hungry (after having found three meters of beautiful fabric in a very old-fashioned haberdashery shop...), we sit at the Fontana Maria restaurant and have the delicious appetizers (including coratella) and then the spaghettini strands of angel hair , seasoned with meat sauce and parmesan. For dessert, a sour cherry tart and a panna cotta. Everything was delicious, homemade enough, seasoned with the chatter of those who served us who collect herbs all year round to boil and offer to us who taste them. Until yesterday, the poppy seedlings (before the red velvet petals bloom) and now the postulaca and then again and again towards summer. There are many delicacies to taste, sight unseen, and we will certainly be back.

Amazing restaurant! We did not have a reservation on the 1st of may and it was our only option during our bike trip, while it was pouring rain outside. They kindly made room for us! Thank you so much again for the food and the understanding ❤️

I went to this restaurant on a Sunday for lunch and even though the place was full, the service was fast and the food was really excellent. A special mention for the coratella, the fresh pasta made by them and the kindness and helpfulness of those who work there. Absolutely recommended!

Excellent cuisine with the flavors of the past. The various appetizers also include the lamb coratella which is a must in this place, finely cut and tasty cooked. In addition to this dish there are also cold cuts, cheeses, stewed beans, pumpkin cut into small slices and dressed like a salad. Then we move on to the first courses, having organized a lunch we opted for two first courses which included the famous tagliatelle with sauce, cut so finely that they absorb the tasty tomato sauce. Then we chose a lasagna mixed with nettles and topped with sausage, mushrooms and bechamel; this was also an excellent choice. Rodolfo then wanted us to taste the famous ravioli with ricotta for which the restaurant is famous. For the second courses we left freedom of choice between 5-6 wood-fired or pan-cooked dishes such as wild boar morsels. Side dishes of green salad, potatoes and sautéed vegetables. His house wine is white or red, my preference is for red. To finish, an excellent, tasty and not heavy birthday cake. To underline the friendliness of Rodolfo, his sister and his wife Laura who, in addition to cooking, also take care of serving the diners as needed. In short, a day spent cheerfully, with excellent cuisine in a familiar and welcoming environment. We have been to Maria Fontana on other occasions and each time with great satisfaction. Definitely coming back

Posto perfetto per cibo genuino, classico locale "di una volta", senza fronzoli ed inutili appendici. Piatti classici ma buoni, ambiente informale, tipo da casa di campagna dello ZIO, ma buono, tanto buono.

23/05/2024: You have to diet for a few days before trying your hand at Nando and his family, spectacular appetizers, indescribable cheese and pepper, perhaps the best I've ever eaten... ask Mrs. Luciana directly, owner and chef... they deserve more stars but not there are more 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks we will be back
