06/06/2024: One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. My mother and I visited during our trip to Rome. We ordered the onion tart, spaghetti with squid ink sauce, meatballs, latte cotto, and tiramisú. The cheese and salad complimented the sweetness of the onion tart wonderfully and the squid ink special was incredible. The pasta was a perfect al dente and not too hard or soft. The meatballs were a great texture and not heavy at all. The latte cotto was soft and delicate and went well with the tiramisú, which was one of the best tiramisus I’ve ever had, boasting a lovely harmony between the gentle sweetness of the cream and bitterness of the coffee/rum. The sourdough bread was also so a highlight for us, with a fragrant yet subtle tang. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was amazing. Our servers were so kind and even offered to call us a taxi following our meal so we didn’t have to struggle communicating with the operator. My mother lost her phone that night and we called the restaurant multiple times to check. The staff were gracious and empathetic, giving us tips for calling the taxi company and never showing frustration. Truly an amazing team at Trattoria Pennestri. Grazie mille.
