This is a wonderful respite from the crowds in the heat. The staff is friendly and the interior is relaxing. Portions are smaller, but the quality is very good. Salvatore is a great host.

Behold, a veritable gem nestled among the mere ordinaries fit for the masses. A bounty of fare fit for Jupiter himself and attendants as gracious as Vestal Virgins. We took great delight in donning the attire of the revered ancestors. This locus is indeed a must for any visitor to the storied grounds of Pompeii.

If I could give a 6/5, I would. We went with the 8 course meal, and yes it was a lot of food but for a great price and did not disappoint at all! We are American, and we thought it was very humbly priced for an 8 course meal to be €55/65 with it being almost like Michelin star restaurant quality. We really feel like we found a gem, and the atmosphere was relaxing. Antonio is really welcoming and really seemed to love his job. Each course was well explained. Overall, we highly recommend coming here, and if we find our selfs in Pompeii again, we are definitely coming back.

The restaurant is overpriced. Pasta with 50 grams of octopus costs 16 eur and pasta with 3 slices of truffles costs 18 eur. We expected for this money much better food. We had to wait also too long for a food.

La prossimità agli scavi è un pregio di questo ristorante, che nulla ha in comune con i ristoranti turistici e di scarsa qualità che solitamente circondano i luoghi di interesse storico-culturale. La particolarità del ristorante è la sua ambientazione, che ricrea in modo minuzioso la classica taberna e la casa pompeiana, con i suoi affreschi, il menù in legno, i bicchieri in terracotta, i camerieri vestiti con le tuniche romane. È possibile per chi vuole, indossare la tunica romana per calarsi ancora meglio. Quanto al menù, i piatti riprendono ricette pompeiane rivisitate in chiave moderna, sicuramente apprezzabile il tentativo di far riscoprire gli antichi sapori. Forse per questo, ho trovato complicati i piatti proposti e con accostamenti originali. C'è poca attenzione alle intolleranze, nel senso che non ci sono alternative ad esempio senza lattosio o senza glutine. La qualità dei prodotti è molto buona e c'è impegno da parte del personale, anche se il piatto che ho preso, il risotto, non mi ha conquistato. Per carità era buono, ma un pò troppo elaborato per i miei gusti, risultando pesante e infatti l'ho lasciato. Proporrei maggiore flessibilità nel menù. Il rapporto qualità prezzo non penso sia adeguato, nonostante il fatto che il ristorante per la sua ambientazione è molto particolare e caratteristico.

Sono ritornato al Caupona dopo cinque anni per il pranzo di Natale proposto con menù fisso (foto). Tutto eccellente dalle portate proposte al servizio attento da parte del personale di sala. Una tappa obbligata per chi va a visitare gli scavi di Pompei o si reca al Santuario della Madonna. Super consigliato.
